tom's hardware has a new article comparing some dual PIII motherboards based on the VIA chipset...and it seems the winner is Gigabyte's GA-6VXDC7...check it out
Don't forget the ECS D6VAA. It's mentioned in the Tom's Hardware review, but for some reason the price is given at "around $150." You can find it on pricewatch starting at $76 for the non-raid version, and $95 and up for the raid version.
ECS Board is a very good option -- one ECS raid + 2 PIII 1GHz costs about $500 now. If Asus board comes out at $250 - $300 range, then I might use it with two Athlon 1GHz (non-MP version) for about the same price. According to Tom's article those non-MP Athlons are fully capable of running in dual mode.
cz, they are, but they're noticeably slower. Athlon MP has a new "MOESI" cache management strategy that is dramatically faster in dual processing than was the old "MESI".
