I'm buying hardware since like 5 years... and I didn't find during that time.. very hot deal place to buy Hardware

The best I can get looks like this
PDF

Today I fell on Newegg.com, and I almost had a heart attack seeing everything almost 10-40% better prices
But damn they arent shipping to Canada!

Wish I could buy from Newegg.. but anyway, do you guys have something good for me?

Hey Nortexoid,

What did you think of Canada Computers?? Their prices are pretty good compared to other places but I heard that their service is sh|t. How was your experience with them?

really seems like USA has +/- 25% better price no matter where we buy in canada

And even if some place in USA ships to canada, there the tax, and the tax on the tax + the tax on the tax of the tax.. etc.. so you get +/- the same price..

burek, i agree, the service is rather poor...but mostly just on weekends...

i had to return something faulty there once - it was either a mobo or cpu, and so i brought it in during the weekday when they're not busy...they took their time and thoroughly checked it out - i actually joked around w/ the techie at the back trying to troubleshoot and was back there talking to him...suggesting things...it ended up being the CPU, which, oddly, also damaged the mainboard as well and perhaps the memory...it might have been something else, but whatever..they replaced them all, rechecked them again and made sure it ran fine for a bit....no troubles really.

if you go on a weekend, expect to get sh1tty service - they're way too busy, they're at the point where they dont' give a sh1t..they just want to move the crowds in and out....and unpolitely usually.

i continue shopping from there them anyway...i don't want some reject mauling me in the store anyway, trying to get my business...i'm in there and out...nuff said...they have the lowest prices in the area, as far as i know.

Hey Doug if you live in Montreal like me, you should check Cost Micro. They pricematch with their competitors, even if they are web based and offer a one year warranty on the product. That way you end with the best of two worlds, great prices without shipping and a 1 year warranty. Of course it's not as good as on Newegg but it eases the pain! Of course we have to find out where are the best prices which is a PITA...

I've heard that at Pricewatch.com you can find Canadians pretty cheap. Sometimes, you can get them for $5 apiece if you buy in bulk.

Sorry.

Yeah .. the guys at canada computers can be d!cks.. and their service is sh!t ..
On the other hand, like nortexoid says, if you know what you want and you go in when it's not busy it's okay. I always do my shopping there. Sometimes, I go down the street to Filtech (sp?) .. they're south east of the intersection (college and spadina) on the east side of spadina ..

Anyways .. if you want to go in person it's much better because there are about a dozen computer stores on that strip and you can go around and find the best prices.

Heheh hello smp.

The reason I like sonnam is because they actually sometimes know what they're talking about. If they don't they actually look things up.

LOL! I NEVER expect anyone who works in a computer store to know ANYTHING about computer components.

Anyone know of any Job Opportunities in the Ottawa Area? I'm a second year Computer Systems Technician at Algonquin and I'm having a hell of a time finding work.

Speaking of taxes, I live in Ont. but order from B.C. (ncix) so I don't get
charged 8% PST, which more than pays for shipping.

I also find s&h charges in Canada to be well below what US sites charge.

Tenoc have you ordered a lot of hardware from NCIX? The point you made about not getting charged the 8% GST is a very good bonus to ordering from NCIX. I used to live in Fernie BC... Ahhh Beautiful British Columbia!

I've bought from five places that still exist (the 2 that don't being onvia, and buy.com -- in the Cdn hardware markets anyway).
Anitec
Atic
gbcomputers
ncix.com
directdial

They all have their drawbacks, such as poor tracking, no online ordering, so-so service, etc.
The last purchase was a couple months ago I ordered over $2G from ncix, all came as ordered no problems with any components, packaging (a ? with them) was fine. On the neg side was kinda slow in coming, and case was backordered eventhough the site always said in stock. Don't forget to pricematch

Edit forgot about the HD from direct dial

NCIX has an awful time of keeping their inventory and website up to date. Almost everyone I've seen ordering a case from them had a problem because it was B/O, even if it was labeled as in stock. The pricematch feature is also pretty nice if you don't mind ordering online (pricematch with no tax is sweeeeet).
Thanks for the websites guys, it will help me getting better prices so keep posting !

Dormant - have ordered a couple grand loonies-worth from them, including cases,
with the only problem being some confusion whether they had some Vol 6+ HSFs in stock.

MisterMe - the prices here are comparable (or better) than the reputable sites down there,
(I've had no occasion to RMA at all) and, yes, American beer sucks the big one!

I can't really add anymore Online retailers, but I can add this: do not buy ANYTHING from Atic.

They are probably the worst place possible. Sure, they have low prices, but if anything goes wrong, you are pretty much well screwed. They will try to blame you no matter what and it is like getting blood from a stone in regards to geting them to replace something. Case in point: a friend of mine bought a Diamond Monster3D from them years ago. The day he bought it, he installed it using the driver disc included with the card. It installed fine, but then the control panel would lose tabs intermittently. They would come and go on their own. So, the next day he takes it back, says it is a defective card and wants to have it replaced with another of the same card. What did the twat at the counter way? "You use wrong drivers!" After about an hour of him arguing with her, the both of them getting more and more pissed off, she finally relented and replaced the card. It was less than 24 hours old and she still was a complete bitch about it. That was with a reputable product like the Monster3D too. This is first hand info by the way as I was there when he bought it, installed it, and took it back. Atic is not worth it. Plain and simple. Avoid them like the plague.

Yep, atic is infamous for bad service.
I'll add to my earlier post of those five listed, I only had problems with gbcomp.
The ones I'd recommend are ncix, anitec, and directdial.

Also reputable but never used: pccanada (premier).
Have also considered
a-power.com
canadacomputers.com looks good, used it in part to pricematch my last ncix order.

computers-canada
and bluemango.ca both store review sites; also some deals at cc.
