best procedure for IE 5.5 upgrade?

the last time i installed ie5.5 over an older version all kinds of problems cropped up, ranging from minor to catastrophic. is there a preferred method that any of you know of that will install this beast with minimum probs? thanks all, twks2

edit: forgot to mention particulars: win98se os. ie5.5 installed after f&p, installing os, via 4in1 drivers and setting up mail acc'ts w/ isp.

just go to http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com

if problems crop up just thank Microsoft for a wonderful POS operating system with good upgrade options ;-)

seriously though, Win9X isn't the most stable thing out there, I consider it a consumable (much like toner or ink) and needs to be replaced every 3-6 months. If you want more stability/reliability you should go to NT, 2k, or some Unix

abzstrack, yeh, i kind'a feel the same way. i f&p every few months, like going to the dentist for a good cleaning. i'm dl'ing and installing ie on my other rig as i'm posting this. i'm trying a different method where i install all the patches and updates for 5.0 before installing 5.5 over it. seeing as if i don't know what the 5.5 install is actually doing to the 5.0 that's already there i'm just hoping for the best. thanx for your comments, twks2

Went to Windows update site and I'm using the 5.5 SP 1 on several machines with no problems. It seems to run a little faster than the earlier version of 5.5.

goto windowsupdate.com if that don't work download all of the install files manually and then install it sometimes that helps, and maybe run Norton Win Doctor or MS reg clean to fix your reg sometimes, IE don't install unless you run and fix that stuff.
