Not RPGs, but more great exclusives that haven't been mentioned so far:

Infamous 1+2
Heavy Rain

For the record, I'm doing the same thing as you, but I got my PS3 last holiday season. So far I have completed Infamous 1+2, Uncharted 1+2, Heavy Rain and God of War. Having a good time with it.

I might pick up Tales of Xillia tonight. Just beat Tales of Graces F. Started uncharted 1. Seems very short based on the reviews I've read. How is Heavy Rain?

Heavy Rain is quite different from anything else I've ever played. It's essentially an interactive movie that is completely based on quicktime events, but these are quicktime events done right. You play from the point of view of 4 different characters tracking a serial killer. The story is amazingly well done and really makes you care about the characters. There are multiple different endings depending on your gameplay.

I liked Heavy Rain because the story and characters were good. The game was quite boring to play but I wanted to see what happened next. Plot twists etc

It's not an RPG, but the Ratchet & Clank Collection (remastered PS2 games) is a good choice for a bright, colorful, fun 3D shooter - platformer with a different feel from PC FPS games.

I loved Heavy Rain. Really struggling to get through Beyond: Two Souls.

Persona 4, and Persona 3 FES are both available on PSN as PS2 classics or whatever they call them, where it runs through the emulator.

Also Persona 5 is still scheduled to come out for the PS3 Q4 of this year.

There's another Tales coming to PS3 as well. Many people are still using them (plus they were probably already in development.

I still need to play Xillia 1. Have it, just haven't got to it....then if it's good grab Xillia 2.

I wrote off FF13 about 10 hours in, so don't need to worry about 13-2 or Lightning Returns.

I like the Persona games, but for some reason I can't stick with them and have never finished one. I think it is because the dungeons are just that..and so repetative.

Are you kidding? It's still quite popular. Heck, the last Madden title on the PS2 was Madden 12, and that came out in 2011, or 5 years after the PS3.

Am I kidding? The PS3 is garbage ancient hardware. So no, I am not kidding.

If you're interested at all in Metal Gear Solid 5, then grab the Metal Gear Solid Legacy Collection (or just 4).

If you are thinking you are going to get mind blowing graphics in a JRPG you will probably be waiting. Even if they weren't developing for the older systems. I think they'd all go mobile before doing that.

They started working on Persona and a couple other RPGs 4+ years ago, before PS4 dev hardware was even available. So yeah they are going to abandon their work on a console that still has a potential audience of 80+ million worldwide as of 2013.

Pretty much, but I kind of like the style used for Persona games myself.

That's an overall sales figure though, no? I'm sure a LOT of those involved repurchased consoles (like special editions and such, or broken console replacements), and there are probably a lot of them traded in from generational upgrades. I'd imagine the true install base now is well below that number.

That doesn't change your point, but just had to mention it. The PS3 has probably 3-5 more years of content, if they give it PS2-level support.

Right which is why it's potential audience. Lets say they even have 30million. They can't give up getting a game they've invested resources into out on the PS3, even if they only get 10% of the people with a PS3 to buy it. Of those there's probably a good number of people who upgraded to PS4 and would buy it there instead, but even so the PS4 isn't exactly smashing records in Japan from what I've heard but there's probably a good PS3 install base there anyhow.

Like you said, point is there is a lot of support coming for the PS3 because of the number of systems that have been sold and potential for a larger audience. With Persona's art style being largely anime inspired with some cel shading etc, it's not pushing any boundaries for graphics. No reason it should be PS4 only in that regard.

Indeed so. I'd imagine the PS3 install base is still higher than that of the PS4, and restarting development for the PS4 would have almost certainly delayed the game another 1-2 years. I wouldn't be surprised if a remake came on PS4 someday, but IDK if that's the kind of franchise for remakes or not.

No, it is launching on PS4 along side the PS3. They just didn't abandon their PS3 development because they announced a PS4 version.

Yeah but the game suffers because the PS3 just isn't a capable machine anymore. I didn't buy it to look at the amazing graphics. I bought it because it has good games I can't get on PC.

Look at the screenshots above. That is the art style of Persona, the game does not suffer at all.

It may seem like joke, but I'm waiting for full on FMV cosplay games so people will stop complaining about graphics. I guess being a child of the Atari age I have a bit more tolerance.

Nah, some people just complain to complain. Like, I never had an Atari, but I play on a 720p TV even now. Mediocre eyesight has one benefit.

I like my graphics but some people don't understand (i'm guilty at times) that graphics don't mean everything has to look like MGS5 and Bloodborne. Some games have a different art style. I'm not fond of cel shading myself. Games like Jet Grind Radio, Borderlands, and Zelda Wind Waker do nothing for me. Though for games inspired by anime or manga they can benefit from it.

I never had Atari, a friend of mine did before I got an NES. I think graphics should always move forward and I've been openly critical of games that hide behind the "art style" argument when they look like NES games in this day and age. I abhore games like Fez etc. However games like Child of Light that look good but have an art style that looks like a painting with 2D backgrounds, or Dragon's Crown where each character was hand drawn frame by frame...I can appreciate that quite a bit.
