Built a server for my home use, i have 10Hard drives in it (MACase).. want to get a good power supply, was looking at the Enermax models because they seem to have the highest Amp's per each rail (+12v, +3.3v, +5v). here are the 2 models: EG465AX-VE & EG465P-VE. my question lies in what will the hard drive need most (draw the most amps from), 12v or 5v? because the EG465AX-VE has 33A for its +12, and 35 A for its 5v. where as the EG465P-VE delivers 20amps for it +12v, and 32amps for its 5v. so, if hard drive suck more power from the +12v line then I think I would need to get the EG465AX-VE model. the only issue is that it seems to be sold more in Europe, and not here in the USA (although you can get it here). I also have a AMD XP Athlon 1800+.. so I want to get a PSU from a supplier that is AMD approved, which Enermax is.

Antec's new true power PSU's are good. I've got the 480W one and love it. I'd think that would be more than suffecient to power those hdd's. I've had a couple enermax PSU's and haven't been impressed with either of them. real low 5v rails and they didn't handle overclocking very well.

PC & Power Cooling 475W w/PFC .. Beats Antec/Enermax hands down but at a premium price.

What kind of case did you put this in? Is it a separate case just for the HDs or is it just a really big case? I have about 6 Hds and i wanted to find out who sell cases just for the HDs

MACase, found the link. But how would something like this work? How does it connect to your PC? I have 4 WD 120 gig JBs in an array, if i were to get something like this, how would it connect to my raid card in my computer?

The Trupower PSUs are awesome. I haven't come across better looking power supplies from the specs than those. I was looking at some PSUs not that long ago, and that is what I thought.

Why not just add up the required juice needed on the 5 and 12 volt lines for the drives you plan to use and go from there instead of relying on all of these guesses?

Your drive manufacturers website will show the required juice needed at idle and during spinup/seek operation. Add to that what your mobo will need and voila.

SCSI drives, SCSI interface in the case of the products you linked to. I take it the original poster is using one of their PC cases that support 10 drives which he will hook up to an IDE Raid controller.

Either Enermax will do nicely. Have a llok at my rig - all that stuff used to be powered by a 350W Enermax before i got the 530W model. Never had any hitches.

the case I have is the MACase KA-036 (which is exactly like this one: KA-066
I use it for my primary computer, and as my house server. I could work out all the req of all the hardware that I have, but instead I decided to purchase the best Power Supply I could, the one with the best specs to power all my hard drives. because I actually have 2 power supplies in this case (it allows this). but even with that, I still am having problems running all those Hard Drives. if any one is looking for a case, to handle alot of HardDrives, then this is the case for you. it uses an unique cooling system, where it blows air accross all 8 5-1/4" front slots (using one 12cm fan). you can then add another 6-8 more harddrives inside the case, and add addtional fans to cool them. I like it because it locks the power and reset buttons away from prying hands.
so, you guys seem to think that the new Antec True 480 only has 22amps on the 12v rail, and 30amps(max) on the 3.3v rail.
and the True 550 has 24amps on the 12v rail, and 32amps on the 3.3v rails. so, the Emermax EG465AX-VE would seem better for my purposes, because its amp rating on the 12v rail (33amps) and 3.3r rail (35amps) is higher then any of the Antec True models.
any thoughts?
