My dad bought it for me when I was about 14 back in the 1990's.

This game was amazing. The videos and details about each car are the icing on many cakes that I downed equaling many hours of fun.

The graphics were good at the time, and game play was to be expected. The extra's and research involved made it EPIC.

Need for Speed II: SE is definitely a very solid choice.

Me personally? I can't think of any in particular. There's too many good racing games, it's hard to think of just one. NFS 2 is definitely up there though.

My favorite old racing game is probably Stunts (4D Sports Driving) for DOS. It was basically Trackmania before Trackmania.

I wish EA would make the old Need for Speed games available for digital download. NFS 2? The original Hot Pursuit? And yeah, Need For Speed Underground as well. I don't care if they're Origin only. I'd love to have copies of those old games that I can run on Windows 7.

gran turismo 2 for me

did anyone who put a lot of time into GT2 actually think any of the NFS games were on the same level? I played the SHIT out of gran turismo 2 but haven't played a lot of other racing games more than casually.. but to me it seemed like there was no comparison.

Burnout Paradise! Ahhh...the ultimate highs and lowest of lows in ranked racing. Played it 4 hours a day for a year straight. Only time I've ever chucked a controller in any game was in BP, when I was top 100 and racing against top 50 ranked racers. I crashed on an invisible object a few seconds from the finish line. It was a frickin dual shock too, which I had to import from Japan.

This is on that PC Gamer 10 full game demo disc as well. I played around with it on my old lap top. It's pretty fun.

I guess I should throw in a vote for TDU. I'm not sure if NFS:HS or TDU took up more hours of my play time.

I freakin' played the hell out of Gran Turismo back in the day.

But I think my vote has to go to Burnout 3. There's nothing quite as fun as careening down a hill into rush hour traffic to wreak as much havoc as humanly possible.
