I am interested to know recommendations and experiences with RAM on the Asus P8Z68 series boards. Anyone have recommendations for RAM which performs well and works reliably on this board with mild overclock? thanks for any insight -

Unless you plan to use integrated graphics, it doesn't matter. I'm not even sure if it would matter when using IGP.

I'm using Corsair LP Vengence 1600 ram(2x4gb) on my Asus Z68 V/Gen3,you have choice of a few colours too .

If you need to use all DIMM slots and plan to use air-cooling, don't get the tall RAM (heat spreaders) (Corsair Vengeance or G.Skill Ripjaws X) or be prepared not to use the left-most DIMM slot to provide clearance. Either use a CPU waterblock, or buy standard height or low-profile DIMMs that will clear the HSF.

As far as specific brand/speed, I like Corsair Vengeance, G.Skill Ripjaws and Kingston HyperX. Have never had a problem with any of these. Don't bother with high clock speeds, best value is 1600Mhz. Overclocking on Sandy Bridge only stresses the memory controller, and adds heat, but doesn't improve any application or game performance. Intel actually specifies 1333Mhz RAM.

G.Skill Ripjaws is better than Kingston HyperX at the same price. Corsair is also considered to be better than Kingston. Kingston does seem to last forever though.

Am also using this on the same board but have 2x8gb kits. It's defaulted to 1333MHz and I haven't bothered to change it to the rated speed.

I've fitted a CoolerMaster Hyper TX3 which has no clearance issues.

It was simple just go in BIOS and change it to 1600 .

RipJawsX is clear under the NH-D14 as far as I know.

Will the HyperX (blu)

http://www.kingston.com/us/memory/hyperx/blu

work on the Asus P8Z68-V LX

http://usa.asus.com/Motherboards/Intel_Socket_1155/P8Z68V_LX/#MSL

even though it's not listed in the Asus manual or on the Kingston list as a compatible model?

Do you see any issue with the 1600MHz version

http://www.kingston.com/datasheets/KHX1600C9D3B1K2_8GX.pdf

being rated at that speed at 1.65V?

I think it makes sense to bump this old thread instead of creating a new thread for the same question.

I still my have P8Z68 Deluxe (first gen), and originally went with 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance memory that wasn't actually on the QVL from Asus. I had learned about the QVL after purchase, but everything worked fine, including the XMP profile for DDR3-1600 at 1.5v.

That said, while I was thinking of purchasing another set since I know it works and they have treated me well, I just took a closer look and it turns out, I wouldn't be able to fit the same exact modules in the 4th/closest DIMM slot to the CPU, as the NH-D14 overhangs. I had to set the one fan up a little bit to get the other memory to fit, but the actual heatsink fins will prevent the tall memory from fitting under it directly.

I'm contemplating getting a 2x8GB kit, or finding a similar-spec but low-profile memory from Corsair. Which would actually be better?

And on the topic of 2x8GB, I do have to worry a bit, because the QVL from Asus only lists two different specific models of RAM for 8GB modules: one from A-Data, and one from Samsung. I'd prefer neither.

Anyone have 8GB modules on this board? If not, do I take a chance with 2x8GB modules, or do I find some Corsair Vengeance modules that have the same timing and speed but with lower profile heat spreaders? Does it matter if all four sticks are exactly the same, or that they are at least installed in matching pairs for dual-channel? I'm always had matching in all configurations (for dual-channel at least), be it personal or at work, so I don't actually have experience to lean on here.

G.SKILL would be my first choice -- for any of the "-GBRL" 2x4 or 2x8GB kits @ DDR3-1600, 9-9-9-24, or the "-GZH" 2x8GB DDR3-1866 kit. The RipJaws -GBRL will easily overclock to 1866 at the same, spec voltage (1.5), a bump up in the VCCIO or VCCSA leaving it below 1.14V, and 10-10-10 -(maybe ) 32. The -GZH kits are stellar at their stock 1866 settings (9-9-9-24) and auto-configure in XMP mode to that profile with command-rate 1. At least they do with my version 1 P8Z68-V-Pro motherboard and v.606 BIOS -- which released in late fall, 2011. And--yes -- I know I should update, but it does everything I want perfectly . . .

By the way. The Deluxe P8Z68 is pretty much similar to the -V Pro except for the extra features, like the two-port USB3 3.5" bay. If you have 12-phase-power-design, then the essentials of my own Z68 are also "Deluxe."

I really love those G.SKILLs. I forgot to mention that I'd put two kits or 4x4GB of the -GBRL in the system for the overclock I mentioned at the stock voltage. Also, I remember now, they were good for command-rate = 1 also.

AFTERTHOUGHT "AND ALSO . . :" Per the QVL lists, G.SKILL distinguishes different design models which span several spec or model speeds. For instance, there's a 1333 -GBRL kit. So if you can find a lower speed with the same model code on the QVL, the higher speed of the same code would most certainly work with the QVL's motherboard.

I've had good luck with 4 x 4GB of the Samsung Green "Wonder Ram" - 8GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR3-1600 1.35V 30nm MV-3V4G3D/US kit x2 works at 1866 cas 8 w/ 1.4V with my overclocked 2500K in my first gen P8Z68 Deluxe, it will also work at 2133 with 1.5 cas 10 but much above that the IMC on my 2500K can't handle it and I'd need an Ivybridge chip to push farther.

I didn't think you could get those low-volt Sammy-RAMs anymore. Can you still find them anywhere?

Samsung MV-3V4G3D-US_DDR3 is probably the BEST DDR3 Dims I've come across. I was fortune to have paid $96 for 2 packages of 2 x's 4GB = 16 GB for my ASUS P8Z68-V Pro GEN3_MB when they were available - WISH I had bought a BOX of them as I would be rich now. I see used sticks on eBay now and then but expensive.

I run mine at 1866Mhz 9-9-9-24-1T at 1.35v with an i7 2700K clocked between 1600/4800GHz 24/7 with 2 x's 290X's in CF - Under Water of course.

Here are some of the remarkable timings to be had with this RAM:
I personally do not like running dims over 1.5v with and Intel CPU as I don't believe it is good for the MCP Controller.

- 1600MHz ( 7- 7- 7-20 1T) @ 1.50v WOW! 1600Mhz CL7
- 1600MHz ( 7- 8- 8-24 1T) @ 1.40v
- 1600MHz ( 6- 7- 7-18 1T) @ 1.55v Absolutely Incredible
- 1866MHz ( 9- 9- 9-27 1T) @ 1.40v
- 1866MHz ( 9- 9- 9-24 1T) @ 1.35/1.45v ( I'll take this Setting ;o)
- 1866MHz ( 8- 9- 9-24 1T) @ 1.50v LIKE this CL8 Timing ;o)
- 1866MHz ( 8- 8- 8-24 1T) @ 1.55v Theoretical
- 2000MHz ( 9-10-10-28 1T) @ 1.45v
- 2133MHz (10-10-10-28 1T) @ 1.45v
- 2133MHz ( 9-10-10-24 1T) @ 1.475v
- 2133mhZ ( 9- 9- 9-24 1T) @ 1.50v
<< Incredible - Imagine this with an i7 2700K clocked at 5.2 >>
- 2133MHZ ( 9-10-10-28 1T) @ 1.55v-1.6v
- 2133MHz ( 9-11-11-21-1T @ 1.55v
- 2400MHz (11-11-11-28 2T) @ 1.50v

- 2760MHz (11-13-13-35-2T) @ 1.65V

Good luck finding it. I believe Gov't Agencies such as NASA and the CIA bought it all up - LOL

Here's an eBay Example - Pricy but they have a Low Profile - No Heat Spreaders required: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Gre...729?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c9445d5e1

This is probably the BEST Deal you're going to get: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Samsung-Green-Wonder-Ram-8GB-2x4GB-DDR3-1600-1-35V-Desktop-Memory-MV-3V4G3D-US/161570720232?_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851&_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIC.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D28794%26meid%3D03953837c2b045b8a8b980e27c8c02d7%26pid%3D100005%26rk%3D3%26rkt%3D6%26sd%3D191466165729&rt=nc

By the way, from my experience, the ASUS P8Z68 with minor glitches is a Rock Solid Hi-OC'g Beast.

From I read and comprehend I've no need to upgrade from this 24/7 4.8 Ghz SB i7 2700K ASUS P8Z68 Gen3 \ CF 290X's Platform Under water for now as she will hang in there Vs the Best of the much more expensive Platforms have to offer today.

She's a little hungry on power but my rent includes it ;o)

$90 to approx $123 USD for 2 used sticks of 4GB Samsung MV-3V4G3D-US_DDR3 is now at 4x's the amount compared to what I paid for NEW OEM sticks at year ago when I paid $96 for 16GB's of it in CDN dollars.

You have to question who's keeping us a SLAVE to the almighty Dollar.

The question is what is the Best RAM for an ASUS P8Z68 - Definitely Samsung MV-3V4G3D-US_DDR3 and over any other DDR3 MB, if you can find it and afford it.
