Hi all,

I'm trying to find a good software that I can use to access my computer at home from while I'm at work. Any suggestions? Is there one/a few programs that are considered the industry standard? Any input would be greatly appreciated.

If you know how to forward ports in your router and configure your Windows install to run on those ports, I'd just use regular ol' Windows RDC. Another option is the tried and tested LogMeIn or TeamViewer.

Some of it depends on what you're trying to do with it. Do you need it to be pretty quick? Then I'd say RDC if you can swing it, else logmein. If you don't need it to be fast and just for real basic stuff, logmein is excellent.

I really like LogMeIn. Simple and free. They are lowering the number of computer you can connect to for free, but still can't beat it.

Ya I've seen TeamViewer in action. I think I'll give LogMeIn a go though. It looks stupendously simple and all I need it for is to do fairly menial/organizational tasks during downtime at work.

I tried teamviewer myself and ended up back with Logmein. They both work really well, but teamviewer doesn't do wake on lan.

I just open an obscure port on my router, change the RDP port to that on my computer and use RDP with some security settings.

Logmein pissed me off when I uninstalled it and it left cr@p behind. Is it still a bloated mess of an installation?

Logmein is no longer free! I guess Teamviewer is now the best alternative?

What is wrong with paying for LOGMEIN? I think it is well worth it. The fee is $49 for existing users and $99/year for new accounts. That certainly a legitimate expense for business users.

It now competes with GoToMyPC - which has a 6 mos free trial and a $69/year fee.
