There are 14 million Vanilla Ice albums out there and I bet you couldn't find one person who would admit to owning one.
i own one

That's your problem.

Mike, [Oops... mpitts]
Have you seen the new Zeppelin DVDs? That stuff just takes me away.

The best trade I've made was an MX700 for the Zeppelin CD/DVD combo set.

I am utterly shocked that it's not 100% for The Beatles. What a disgrace. I knew there would come a day when a generation wouldn't appreciate the genius of The Beatles. I guess that day is now.

The Beatles reign as the greatest band of all time.

The Beatles are definitely the best. They changed popular music forever.
I definitely consider them a rock band. Even though some of their early stuff seems more pop-oriented than their later work, it was almost all straightforward guitar-driven stuff and it was quite different than most of the "pop" of that time.
Many rock bands today cite the Beatles as their #1 influence.

Zeppelin is a close second; they had more influence on "hard rock".

Exactly. Who do you think influenced Zep and Floyd? Maybe your tastes make you appreciate Zep or Floyd more, but at least admit The Beatles were the most important rock band of all time.

I can't take this poll seriously without the Rolling Stones as a choice. I do not consider Pink Floyd as one of the top fifty rock bands, and I tend to think Led Zeppelin is not a credible choice either.
The Beatles and Zepplin are almost the only two realistic choices.

The beatles have the MOST top fifty albums of all time.
Led Zeppelin is number 2.

Most top 50 albums doesn't make anyone the best... just the most popular... or even just a band that is fairly popular that produced a lot of albums.

Heck, Brittany Spears has a top 50 album, and she sucks the big one.
Current popularity may not mean anything.
But, if you are popular 30 years later, that is everything. You have stood the test of time. Especially since way way way more people are buying albums now than years ago, yet Zeppelin is out selling Spears 30 years later vs. maybe 2 for her.

Yeah, like Aerosmith. Their music has evolved, so even today they have a huge following of both the young and old generations. How many other bands have managed to do that? They may not be the most influential, but IMHO, they are one of the best.

Of those three in the poll, I chose Led Zeppelin. Overall I think they are better musicians than The Beatles but that's just my opinion. That being said, The Beatles will always be considered the best rock band of all time simply due to the fact that they were the first. That applies to a lot of other things as well.

Take fighting games for example. Anyone who enjoys this genre of video games will be familiar with a little game called Street Fighter 2. Ask most people and they will say that Street Fighter 2 is the best fighting game of all time. Most gaming publications often agree with this as well as they almost always include this game in their "Top 100 Games of All Time" features. There are fighting games that have come out later on that are technically superior in every way but will never be remembered as fondly as SF2. Look at games like Soul Calibur 1/2 and Dead or Alive 3.

Concerning modern rock bands, I have to say that Pearl Jam is one of the best (if not THE BEST) band out there today. They've got an amazing sound (they're continuously changing/evolving and not afraid to experiment) and their lyrics are awesome. Read the lyrics to "Black", "Rearviewmirror", "Alive", "Off He Goes", "Corduroy", "All Those Yesterdays", etc. and you'll see what I mean. These guys are amazing live! Almost all of the rock bands that are out today have listed Pearl Jam as influencing them (as older bands like The Beatles, The Who, Led Zep have influenced guys like Pearl Jam). There was a reason why the latter part of the 90s was jokingly called by many rock DJs as "the era of the Pearl Jam clones".

I agree with you although I like both Led and Floyd. First, the Stones are the greatest rock band of all time. There is no question of that. Second, both Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin followed the paths already created by the Beatles and the Stones (respectively).
The apprentices cannot be better than the Masters.

edit: given the choices, I voted for the Beatles.

ummmm maybe the reason zep has more albums sold vs contemporary artists is cuz they've been selling them for 30+ years? no duh if you've been selling albums for that long opposed to someone who's only been around for 5 years, yeah, the first group will have more records sold. compare zeppelins 30 year sales period to nirvana or metallicas 30 year sales periods. i think you'll be surprised. you just have the same middle aged people reliving their youth buying the CDs of the same LP they had as teenagers in the 70s. frankly classic rock from the 60s,70s, and 80s is tired. give me early to mid-90s rock any day!

definetly Zeppelin. I like Pink Floyd, but not a favorite. And I don't really like the Beatles.

Not true.
Brittney Spears has sold more albums that ELO, but no sane person would argue that, Brittney Spear is better/more tallented/more artisting/has more lasting musical value

Led Zeppelin is the best rock band ever.
The Beatles were the most important band ever.
Pink Floyd is one of my all-time favorites and one of the most unique, talented, and original bands ever. But they aren't a rock band.

The Beatles have some boring pop songs, but they also did some of the best songs ever written. They were part of a social phenomenon and musical revolution. They are certainly the most influential.

Led Zeppelin just blows you away. Somebody said they were the least talented and I have to completely disagree. Just listen to the energy and emotion in Bonham. The amazing bass lines of Jones.

i just don't get where this "musical greatness" comes from in zeppelin. i've listened to their songs and frankly the music is mostly weak, average at best. there are dozens of better rock bands, musically. maybe its the producing of the recordings...maybe they sounded good live or something...who knows.

I do not like Led Zeppelin. It just sounds "old" and "stale" to me.
The Beatles have a timeless classic sound.
Pink Floyd is the best IMO.

In that case, they should all have to bow to the old guys, like Muddy Waters.
IIRC, the Stones actually did.
