I completely agree that sales does not equal quality.
There are 14 million Vanilla Ice albums out there and I bet you couldn't find one person who would admit to owning one.

The Beatles are definitely the best. They changed popular music forever.
I definitely consider them a rock band. Even though some of their early stuff seems more pop-oriented than their later work, it was almost all straightforward guitar-driven stuff and it was quite different than most of the "pop" of that time.
Many rock bands today cite the Beatles as their #1 influence.

I can't take this poll seriously without the Rolling Stones as a choice. I do not consider Pink Floyd as one of the top fifty rock bands, and I tend to think Led Zeppelin is not a credible choice either.
The beatles have the MOST top fifty albums of all time.
Led Zeppelin is number 2.
Most top 50 albums doesn't make anyone the best... just the most popular... or even just a band that is fairly popular that produced a lot of albums.
Heck, Brittany Spears has a top 50 album, and she sucks the big one.
But, if you are popular 30 years later, that is everything. You have stood the test of time. Especially since way way way more people are buying albums now than years ago, yet Zeppelin is out selling Spears 30 years later vs. maybe 2 for her.
I agree with you although I like both Led and Floyd. First, the Stones are the greatest rock band of all time. There is no question of that. Second, both Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin followed the paths already created by the Beatles and the Stones (respectively).Originally posted by: Don_Vito

ummmm maybe the reason zep has more albums sold vs contemporary artists is cuz they've been selling them for 30+ years? no duh if you've been selling albums for that long opposed to someone who's only been around for 5 years, yeah, the first group will have more records sold. compare zeppelins 30 year sales period to nirvana or metallicas 30 year sales periods. i think you'll be surprised. you just have the same middle aged people reliving their youth buying the CDs of the same LP they had as teenagers in the 70s. frankly classic rock from the 60s,70s, and 80s is tired. give me early to mid-90s rock any day!

Out of those three I like Led Zeppelin the best.
In that case, they should all have to bow to the old guys, like Muddy Waters.Originally posted by: Vic

The apprentices cannot be better than the Masters.
edit: given the choices, I voted for the Beatles.
