Best router for student house

All of my housemates have WIFI connections on their laptops, as do I. We have Virgin Media 20mb Cable broadband (and a virgin cable modem) but need a WIFI router. Just need to pick something of quality and value, and wont throttle peoples download speeds.

not a big fan of netgear...check out the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54, which supports dd-wrt for added functionality.

You'll definitely want something with QoS capabilities for a student house so that everyone can have their share of bandwidth and there shouldn't be any noticeable slowdowns.

The router suggested above will work and so will something like the Linksys WRT54GL

I have personally had some quality issues with Linksys lately and have to second the Buffalo WHR-HP-G54, or the WHR-G125. Both of which can be flashed to dd-wrt and have various "wondershaper" scripts setup. Check out www.dd-wrt.com - it's pretty easy and you'll learn some neat stuff too.

I'll second the Linksys recommendations. My WRT54G at home and a WRT54GS and WRT54GL I recently set up are all working flawlessly.

How many active nodes are usually on the network at any one time? What kind of traffic is passed through the gateway?
