Hi guys,

I'm currently using a Dell 27" 2560x1440 monitor, and I would like to add a secondary display to handle my messaging/email/music duties. I would like something that matches in size both physically and resolution wise, but I haven't found anything that fits the bill yet, do you guys have any recommendations?

I would eventually like expand to 3 monitors, and would like my set up to look similar to this:

Thanks.

I got a second monitor the same as my first, and it only made me want the third more. Long story short, I now run 3 monitors.

Eventually, I do plan to get 3, but I will need to get a bigger desk first.

If you want to expand to 3 monitors, either buy all of the same monitor, or start over with something you want instead, and don't pay attention to your primary one in your decision.

Running a portrait monitor next to 25x14 is tough. I run a U2711 flanked by Samsung 204Bs. They're longer with more resolution so it's not the perfect fit. The closest you can get is 1440x900, but then your width is too narrow for most web pages.

It's never going to work unless someone makes a 6:5 ratio monitor and gives me 1440x1200. The best option around those sizes is a 2540x1600 and 1600x1200 flanks as in the thread mentioned.

I currently have a Dell U2713HM monitor. It's very nice, but I keep finding myself wanting more workspace. My current plan is to get a second U2713HM and run it side-by-side with the original. In the long run, I may add a 40" 4K monitor in the middle, and then flank it with the two U2713HMs switched to portrait mode. All of these would have about the same PPI (110 or so), so I can use the same scaling (125%) on all of them and get a fairly uniform appearance.

Yeah, a 1440x1200 monitor (preferably at 110 PPI or so) would be nice for PLP-type triple monitor setups, but that's a fairly niche usage, so I doubt we'll see this.

One concern I would have about 1600x1200 monitors is that the only affordable ones seem to be fairly old. Dell's most recent is the 2007FP, and that model number hints that it was originally designed/released 8 years ago. Has anyone checked how this does on power consumption compared to modern IPS panels? I've seen charts indicating that some older Dell monitors, like the 3008WFP, have power consumption ranging up to a whopping 130 watts! A couple of these running constantly could act like a space heater. (I live in Florida, so this kind of thing is more of an issue than in some other areas.) Newegg lists a few current 1600x1200 models from NEC and Eizo, but they cost a fortune.
