so i went with the pioneers since they went back on sale for 49.99 and also picked up the amp from the 3rd posting for 98.00 shipped. I'll re-purpose or get another subwoofer for this project but thanks everyone for their suggestions. I hope they helped the OP as much as they did me.

silly question, but how would i then connect a subwoofer to all this ? im trying to replace my PC's 2.1 system with something newer

Will you still have the 2.1 setup? If yes, perhaps you could use the Sub from them...assuming it's decent(the Klipsch Subs are pretty decent).

Id love to reuse the klipsch sub if i can (that was my thinking anyway)
After looking at some pictures I think you'll need to attach the control wire of the right satellite for the sub to function. Then you could use a 3.5mm splitter to attach the t-amp and the right satellite at the same time.

I blew one of my Pro Media 2.1 speakers (left channel) and I found one on ebay for less than 15 bucks so I figured why not. It's flawless and works great. If you do decide to buy speakers on ebay be careful that it's the exact one for your system because Klipsch made different versions of the Pro Medias. I got lucky because the left I bought the wire is hardwired into the speaker where mine the left channel had a 1/16" jack.

AMP (LEPAI TRIPATH can't be beat for ~$20, might need to get 12volt and 2 or 4 amp power supply sepparate which is ~$7 if you don't have one lying around):

SPEAKERS $50 and free shipping until 07/30:

Speaker wire (16 or 18 gage around ~7 for a spool of 50ft):

Audio connector from PC to AMP for $2.50:

Total price ~80-90 dollars for a very decent stereo setup.

Hi guys, sorry to bring this thread back. But I saw that the pioneer speakers were on sale for $50/pair on Newegg and decided to go ahead and pick them and the amp up. They're bigger than I expected (the size pretty much dwarfs my monitor, lol).

Now, I'm not an audiophile, but the speakers sound a bit muffled. Its almost as if I'm listening to them with earplugs on; its kind of hard to describe. I've tested them with multiple sources and they all experience this problem.

I've played with the settings on the amp, and can get it to sound pretty decently with the treble turned up quite high, but then I run into distortions on the higher notes.

Is there something I'm overlooking here? or is this just how they're supposed to sound and I just need to grow accustomed to them?

If possible, try attaching the speakers to a different PC, see if the audio quality changes when you do that.

Don't have another PC, but tried it with an iPod. The effect is less pronounced, but still noticeable.

I just don't know if its an issue with source material, equalizer, or the speakers.
I was using a pair of Logitech 2.1 speakers before this setup, and well, I can't tell the difference between a 96kbps and a 320kbps mp3 on those. These I definitely can, so I don't know if I'm just noticing bad source material for the first time or if its something else.

I'm guessing your old speakers accentuated higher-freqs more, and the new pair has a soft-dome tweeter or something that can't reproduce as well. You're missing those high-frequencies that made music more crisp and detailed and now your music sounds muddy.
Too much treble is "bright" or "fatiguing", but not enough just sounds like you're listening through the wall or something.
