That's a good point. Does plex/ roku 3 do bandwidth based bitrate transcoding? Most of my media's in 1080p and works perfectly fine on my apple tv 3 that's hardwired, but sucks on our wifi connected bedroom tv. Downscaling to 720p would be just fine, but aTV seems to be playing at full res no matter what the connection quality. Roku/plex good at dropping down when necessary?
I haven't used Plex for months ever since I got my FireTV, but the last time I used it, I had to choose the lower rate manually.
Having said that, for serious media watching I made sure I connected via ethernet. I still do not believe (and probably won't for a long time) in playing videos through wireless. Occasional Youtube clips on Chromecast is fine, but other than that, all my streaming devices are wired.
FYI, just picked up a roku 3 and I'm very impressed. Plex works just great and the Time Warner Cable app means I can return my bedroom set top box and end up saving $12 a month - it'll pay for itself in months!
