Who do you guys think make the best snowboards? I have and older Santa Cruiz and love it to death, I've also ridden a couple Burtons that were pretty nice. I'm thinking about investing in a new one, what are some good brands?

People don't realize, but snowboards aren't just planks, and not all of them work the same.

It is VERY important that you get a snowboard that matches your style and the type of performance you require.

What are the conditions of your area?

- You need to have a certain rating of SINTERED BASE for different kinds of ski conditions.. meaning, hardpack, powder, this also determines the amount of damage your board can sustain.. meaning, a board with a 1k base or lower would scuff and mark up easily/gouge on rails.. whereas something around 2k would not.. but this would be a stiffer board.

- How much flex do you require? Do you want high speed stability, or some flex so you have some forgiveness when hitting kickers, rails..etc.

I could go on, but really you need to specify your level of riding and what the conditions are like.

I just opted for a stiff, but flexibile board.. it has more pop than I'll be able to handle... yeeehaw. Anyway, I ordered last years M3 154 CAP board.. ..it is the black one...very nice, and I baught a pair of Drake F-60's for bindings.

There is a serious difference between cheap boards and entry level/more expensive boards.. and you'll learn it the hardway when your ptex stars peeling or you' bust an edge. Go big or go home...

phuz: Try hitting a rail on ski's Yes, I am insane. I dislocated out my knee doing that 2 years ago, and do not do it any more

Another one for M3... my friends swear by Salamon though...

My co-worker wanted to comment that he swears by the decks at Toys-R-Us.
Yeah, Salomon makes quality products, all around. Their boards are a little more stiff than most, but great quality.

I decided to go with Salomon for my boots... I had a pair of Salomon shoes for 2 years and they were great.. so I didn't have much trouble trusting them with boots.

Evadman - I see skiiers doing rails, and man.. hehehehehe. I just baught all this stuff because I had to get rid of all my gear...take a year off... you may remember a post a year or so ago when I broke my arm really nicely... (2 plates, 10 bolts and 2 surgeries)... that was on a rail... damn rails. Needless to say, I won't be touching them this year.

Ouch. Gotta be nice trying to get past security at an airport now I am with you. I doubt I will hit another rail for a while. My brother on theother hand, loves the feature parks.

Anyone know of a good resort in the lake tahoe aera that has a good terain park? My bro would love you. Leaving next saturday for a week. So far, we only have 3 of 6 days booked at Heavenly.

If I snowboarded I'd buy Santa Cruz, simply out of hometown loyalty

<- from Santa Cruz

I'm rather impartial to M3, but I suggest you to rent a few boards/bindings, see what suits you the best.

And if you are just learning, do like me and get the cheapest one you can find, destroy it.

If you're an intermediate to advanced rider looking for a custom board at bargain prices (~$300), definitely check out Donek. The founder, Sean Martin, is an engineer who used higher-order mathematics to generate his board shapes and really studied the science behind snowboarding to pick his materials. Email Donek and Sean himself will help you pick out a board that suits your physiology and riding style.

I have a Burton and its nice, it is also bullet proof. I have only ridden it a couple of times thought but that is because I broke my tailbone the second time I took it out.

I bought my first snowboard last season. It's a Burton Floater 163. Works very nicely for me!

I don't care about speed, nor do i do any tricks, I just wanna be stable and enjoy the ride.

Like phuz said, it all depends on how you plan on boarding

I broke my tailbone the second time I took it out.

How'd that feel? Catching edges suck. I was in shock so it didn't hurt AS much.. but... how does something like that heal?

It heals by itself + lots and lots of pain medication.

I bought a "Liquid" brand snowboard. Thought/comments?

I'm a newb, I just want to get downthe hill w/o falling on my ass.

I love snowboarding. God it's so fun. It should be raining (snowing in the mountains) any hour now. First of the season for me. Southern California... yeah, I know our mountains suck, but when you're a newb they're all the same.

Liquid is fairly entry level but it really doesn't matter when you're just starting out. It'll be a fine snowboard I'm sure.

Southern California... yeah, I know our mountains suck,

Daaamn man, try Ontario. You have Mammoth... Snow Summit... I can dream..
