Best socket 939 CPU to upgrade to...

Hey guys,

I find myself needing to upgrade my CPU. (mainly due to UT3 and other new games).. I'm sure I could use a full upgrade to a new mobo, RAM, CPU and video card... but can't afford it at the moment.

Here's the current specs:
Abit Mobo - somthing with socket 939, can't remember model
2 GB PC2700 RAM
Opteron 144 at stock speed (1.8GHz)
GeForce 7800GT

I am looking to upgrade the CPU as a temporary boost to the performance until I can spend more money on a new mobo/ram/CPU upgrade...
So, what socket 939 CPU should I upgrade to for the next 6 months or so? I am looking to spend about $100-$130 on the new CPU.

Thanks for any advice... and thanks also for links to specific deals that you may have heard about for a 939 cpu!

I got a 4400 from tigerdirect for $117 shipped retail box package...they are a little cheaper now I believe.

I bought a x2 3800 for $55 from the egg and got 2.7 oc np. Haven't bothered to try for more.

Look for one used. He didn't say it had to be new.

I picked up one used on eBay for my SQL box for around $150.00

Tigerdirect has the X2 4800+ for ~$120 now. 2.4 GHz, 2 MiB cache.

I'm not sure if I'd spend the money on that though -- an X2 3800+ is about half the price, and can probably be overclocked to 2.4 GHz easily. That still wouldn't get you double the cache, and maybe the 4800 could be OC'd higher, but that $60 might still be better applied elsewhere.

you can get the x2 4200 from newegg, there was a coupon floating around for newsletter subscribers. that would be a good upgrade otherwise get the cheapest opteron and overclock if.
