Nobody mentioned Smoke on the Water yet? ATOT fail.

One of the first I considered - an obvious and great pick - but falls under the 'intro same as song' issue.

However, on reconsideration, it's such a classic intro it probably deserves an exception to the rule.

Love Reign O'er Me, Roger Daltry had arguably the best pipes in the biz at one time, can you imagine ANYONE else even attempting to sing this song with his power, passion and range, not possible, ever..

Already on the honorable mention (and a good candidate for the main list), but the intro isn't about Daltrey's great singing on the rest of the song

It'd be nice to see a post from someone who wasn't familiar with several songs on the list/in the thread who checked them out and enjoyed.

It's an entire song, but anyway:

"Future Legend" - the spoken word track 1 that segues into "Diamond Dogs" track 2:

FL - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5CFptxXhao
DD - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myD_Rq3Deh8

And in the death
As the last few corpses lay rotting on the slimy Thoroughfare
The shutters lifted in inches in Temperance Building High on Poacher's Hill
And red, mutant eyes gaze down on Hunger City
No more big wheels

Fleas the size of rats sucked on rats the size of cats
And ten thousand peoploids split into small tribes
Coverting the highest of the sterile skyscrapers
Like packs of dogs assaulting the glass fronts of Love-Me Avenue
Ripping and rewrapping mink and shiny silver fox, now legwarmers
Family badge of sapphire and cracked emerald
Any day now
The Year of the Diamond Dogs

Oh, that Alan Parsons Project (I believe they were some sort of hovercraft) song has to be mentioned. Very mediocre song, but iconic intro.

Layla - Eric Clapton/Derek and the Dominos.

Sure, you have the immediately recognizable guitar riff, but there's the piano segment at the end. So no, the intro isn't the entire song. :awe:

A couple bands I think have songs with great intros likely for the list not yet identified are Alan Parsons and Queen, but haven't found the right song yet.

Maybe ELO.

And Steely Dan.

Eye in the Sky? The Chicago Bulls used that intro for their home player introductions during the Jordan years. It was amazing how well it worked, knowing how cheesy the rest of the song was (is).

The intro was a separate track called Sirius...

Would Eruption count as an intro for You Really Got Me?
