My system is equipped with a Soundblaster Audigy 2ZS Gamer Limited Edition soundcard. I want to know a good pair of speakers that will give some great sound out of them? Do you guys know where to get some good ones that are reliable?

Klipsch Promedia 5.1 Ultra

Best speakers on the market.

The Creative Gigaworks would be second, their sats are a bit better but the bass is no where near Klipch's. It bottoms out to easy. Nothing can touch the Ultra sub right now.

Logitech isnt even in the same ballpark........

Yowza, nothing that expensive, what I mean to say is something that is worthwhile in the $100 range. $349 for speakers seems like overkill to me...even if they are the best...

Get something in the logitech line if you want to spend about that much. I have a set of logitech z-560 ( I believe thats them, the THX certified 4.1 setup) and they sound pretty damn good for the $125 I spent on them through amazon months back.

I was all ready to give you a basic HT recommendation... but for $100... hmmm....

The real question is why did you get a $100 soundcard if you're only going to get $100 speakers? (I know, I know, it comes with games)

$100 isn't going to get you a lot.

If you're willing to go refub, Justdeals has logitech z-5300s for $95 shipped.

How good are those speakers YoYo? Remember, I have this system for sheer future proofing, so I'll be ready to upgrade when the time comes. How fast can those speakers ship out?

If you can live with having a 4.1 setup, these are great. Boston Acoustics makes good stuff. I have a friend with these who loves them. I think they sound better than my old Klipsch 4.1 speakers.

I bought a set of Logitech z-5300e on eBay brand new for $120 shipped. They are 5.1 and THX certified - for whatever thats worth.

I think they sound great. The 100 watt sub is very powerful. Plus, the speakers look and feel high quality. For the price, I don't think they can be beat......

With a bunch of speakers, I wouldn't know where to put them in my room. Is it all right if they're on the floor or something?

On the floor is probably ok, but for best listening the closer to ear level the better.....

Any equipment that would be able to achieve that effect? Like some poles or something?

Yea, there are several different types of speaker stands out there; a lot of them are just like you described - a pole with a very small platform on top to sit your satellite/surround sound speakers on....

I haven't ordered from Justdeals myself, but have heard a few people say good things about them... not sure on the shipping though. If you're really concerned about it, you could probably give them a call and ask for an estimate.

Wow, just checked reseller ratings on them and it's really bad. I don't think I'm going to recommend them anymore. I don't know why I was under the impression that they were a good place to buy from.

compuplus has much better ratings and according to pricegrabber it would be about $125 shipped for shipping to my zip code (and they're new).

Are you saying you're going to upgrade the speakers later or not? Future proofing = trying to get something great now so you wont have to upgrade for a while... and then you say you'll be ready to upgrade... I don't understand.

I think those are pretty good for $125 shipped. Logitech makes some pretty decent stuff for the price. I had z-560s for 3 years and sold them for almost the same I paid for them after all that. You'll get better sound if you spend more, but at around $100 I think logitechs would be tough to beat.

Yeah, here's ideally what you're looking for answer.

I know a lot of people on AT actually just but all the speakers in front of them. I think it's kind of pointless, but that's another option heh.

He was a great asset to general hardware and other technical forums. Unfortunately he got a little carried away with drug related posts in the off topic area and the mods banned him without a warning or explination. He made about 76 posts a day and the vast majority of them were very informative and helpful to others.

I'm betting I will have to settle for 2.1 for now, then get better speakers when I know more.

Wow, not getting the audigy2 is a real waste

I hope you use it someday hehe.

If you're not really into bass, Swan M200s will give you better quality than the Klipsch set. Klipsch 2.1 is a good option though too.

EDIT: you could also get a set of bookshelf speakers and a sonic t-amp and get very good quality.

I am adding my vote for the Klipsch 2.1. I have a Klipsch 4.1 setup that I use as a 2.1 because I dont have room for the satillites, and it sounds great. It costs more than other brands, but the premium is well worth it.

Good speakers are good speakers, they arent going to become obsolete, and you arent going to have to upgrade them with the rest of your computer. I've had mine for 4 or 5 years, and they are still just as good as anything else on the market. You cant say that about any other piece of computer hardware.

EDIT: How about this place? http://www.consumerdepot.com/products.asp?id=V21R The 3-day shipping is about $30, but considering it comes out to $80 total is pretty good compared to other spots.

Bookshelf speakers just meaning basic hometheater speakers that are small in size. (As opposed to floorstanding speakers.

example of bookshelf speakers

As for those $50 klipsch, there's a thread from Hot Deals about it. Some people got good sets and some didn't (one guy got a set with a popsicle stick impaling one of the satellite speakers)
