The 560's SUCK compared to the Altec 641's. The logitechs are toys, built by a mouse company. The altec's are much more substantial, built by a real speaker company.

I'm also looking at a new speaker system, I have narrowed it down to the Monsoon MH-505, AL 641's, or the MegaWorks 510D.
The best deal I have found on the 641 is at amazon for $134 with free super saver shipping.
Has anyone used the Megaworks? I havn't seen many reviews on them.

Had to put in my thoughts in this thread.

I've been through quite a few computer speaker systems myself - a lot of Altec systems, because time and time again, they don't dissapoint.

Altecs - ACS33, ACS44, ACS45.2, ATP3, ADA880, ADA885, ACS54, ACS56
and the Logitech Z560's.

I currently own the ADA885's, ACS56, and the Z560's.

The Z560's are the system to get if you want to fill a large room with a ton of sound (and bass).
It seems that logitech just took the brute force method of creating LOUD speakers.
They do sound good at loud volumes, not much distortion in the bass at all.
However, the details in the music are not as bright as they are in the ADA885's.

I prefer the ADA885's for music and movies, and the 560's for gaming, and songs with lots of bass.

After a lot of reading and talking to people, I think I'm going to go with the Altec Lansing 641. I haven't heard them myself yet... so I am still kind of waiting to hear them before I buy, they seem like the right choice though.

I went to Compusa today, and they only had the Logitechz560 on display to listen... they sounded good though. So I'm going wait until I can hear them for myself side by side.

+ I like the looks of the Logitech speakers better.
+ I also like how the Logitech uses normal speaker wire
- I don't like how they seem kind of bassy

Let's keep this thread alive. They're a lot of helpful information in here.

Well, I'm keeping this puppy alive as I am also getting ready to upgrade my speakers. The speakers that I am currently using are the Creative FPS-2000
if anyone remember those...

Okay, I have a friend who's looking for music only (little to no gaming) speakers for his new comp. What is the difference between the 621's (which are under Altec's "music" section on their site" and the 641's (which are under the "game" section of the site)?

I had a chance to use the Roland MA-8BK's ($99) for a couple days and was impressed. They were really good for monitoring keyboards but also good for playing music, games, and watching DVD's.

For power I would go with the z560s and for a cheap 5.1 solution I would check out the Yamaha TSS-1.

The 621's have 2 satellites and the bass unit has 1 woofer. The 641's have 4 satellites, the bass unit has 2 woofers and is much larger, and the amplifier power is double that of the 621's.
