Man I love so many of his movies, but Dr. Strangelove is such a brilliant *AND* entertaining film. It is one of the best films EVER.

A lot of the material in FMJ was covered in other movies. I like it, but Dr. Strangelove is the best IMHO.

 though I voted for strangelove because I just love it and Peter Sellers to death. Seriously, EWS haters just don't get it. It's a movie about sexual frustration and obsession, told with vignettes that end in a dissatisfying fassion, which leads to more built up tension. I have seen very few films that I could compare it with.

Eyes Wide Shut was waaaaay better than 2001.

2001 was just cinematic masturbation.

A Clockwork Orange is his best, hands down.

Quiet, you. You actually bought 3000 Miles to Graceland on DVD.

...and it's better than any Kubric film.

You've got to be kidding me. That movie licked donkey's for breakfast.

he did some amazing things with that book.
all of his movies are pretty great.
i have to say that each one fits into a unique area of greatness.

fmj is, to me, his most important film.
but dr. strangelove is the funniest (followed by lolita)
and 2001 and clockwork are both fascinating stuff.
i could sit and watch any of his stuff anytime, anywhere.

DEATH TO JOO!!!

Actually, everybody here was creaming their panties over this movie, so one day I saw it on my satellite so I sat down and watched it (against my better judgement).

Other than about 10 minutes of Peter Sellers, the movie is completely unfunny and, even worse, boring as freaking hell.

Hahaha! That's what everyone says about Kubrick. "Oh you don't like that movie because you don't 'get it.' You must be stupid."

In fact, I think a lot of sycophantism surrounding Kubrick is because people don't get the movies (because a number of them SUCK or are alternatively technically marvelous, but very hard for a watcher to follow and understand). It seems to have erupted into this mindset of "I don't understand Kubrick movies, but that must be because they are so intellectually elevated so I'll just swear he is an amazing filmmaker..."

That said, my vote goes for Dr. Strangelove for being one of his few home runs - entertaining, thought-provoking, technically marvelous, AND you don't need a companion book or even a second screening to "get it."

2001 is probably his technical masterpiece, but the sheer number of people who cannot comprehend large portions of the movie after one viewing means he did something wrong IMO.

Is that what everyone says to you? Maybe they're right. Funny, no one ever said that to me.

Definitely 2001. If you don't understand the first part with apes jumping up and down and screaming at a foreign object for an obscenely long period of time then well, you are not an intellectual. Or at least that is what everyone tells me when I tell them how much I hate 2001 from beginning to end.
