I rather eat store generic than Blue Bell. Blue Bell is so bad I can taste the plastic like artificial ingredients. Something I have hard time doing even with cheap generic like Walmart Great Value ice cream.

I prefer Trader Joe's ice cream, Ben & Jerry, and Haagen Dazs.

How is Trader Joe's specifically? There's one 45 minutes away from us, so it's a bit of a trek, but I've loved all of their frozen foods so far.

I would love to actually find this in the states. Thankfully I'm heading back over at the end of the week so can get my fix. Then again I sometimes wonder if I think of it as being the best just because I can't actually have it when I start to crave it.

My favorites I can always get my hands on here are Ben&Jerry's Americone Dream and Late Night Snack.

The most exotic ice cream would probably be Jeni's, but at $10 a pint, it's definitely a special occasion treat. However, the Whiskey & Pecans is about the 4th best thing I've ever put in my mouth:

my cousin raves about jeni's. apparently he found it in LA.

Blue Bell isn't all that great. I prefer Dryers/Edys for mid level ice cream.

We don't have Eddy's here in Hawaii. And I think I can find a lot of the ultra premium stuff at Whole Foods...

Do you have Dryer's? Same stuff, different name in different locations. Like Hellman's mayo and Best Foods mayo.

I guess I'll try Dreyers again. It wasn't that much better than the Breyers stuff I just got. Man sometimes living in Hawaii has its downsides lol

I'm glad I just got some Haagen-Dazs on Friday, otherwise I'd be off to the store right now.

My sister tuned me into them; it's impressive what you can do with just a few simple ingredients. Example: cream, skim milk, sugar, egg yolks, coffee. That's it.

(Though for some reason, the combination of cream and skim milk amuses me.)

I picked up some coconut-based faux (vegan) ice cream because of this thread. I didn't even realize my ssupermarket had Graeter's, which sucks because now I can't try it. Kinda wanted to see if it's better than the other ice cream brands.

EDIT: Drats, I picked up the wrong one, got So Delicious chocolate, which is soy based. Not too bad, though.

I've nothing against frozen desserts, ices, gelato etc. but, as a Chef, I have a MAJOR problem with companies marketing products for Vegans and other special dietary groups as <fill in the blank> substitutes. It may be delicious but, it ain't ice cream.

I think Trader Joe's chocolate ice cream is solid. I also like their pumpkin spiced ice cream but that's seasonal and only available during the Fall. I love most of Trader Joe's items. Wife and I will head there this evening. Luckily, there's one less than 5 minutes from my house.

Kroger's house brand is excellent. Kirkland Private Reserve I think is the name.

Breyer's doesn't even call it ice cream anymore... It's "frozen dessert" or something like that on the package. Blech.

Graeters is expensive generic dog food when compated to blue bell

You clearly don't even understand ice cream.

High quality ice cream, has lots of cream. That's the expensive ingredient that makes ice cream, ice cream and not cheap ass ice milk. Cream is fat, so just compare fat content.
1/2 cup of chocolate ice cream:
Graeter's = 17 grams of fat
Haagen Daaz = 17 grams of fat
Ben & Jerry's = 13 grams of fat
Blue Bell = 9 grams of fat

Blue Bell is low quality swill compared to the premium brands. Blue Bell is full of cold air.

I prefer Ben and Jerry's. Blue Bell is junk, they just have good marketing.

It was meant to be funny. Relax.

I mean, the OP was asking about different kinds of ice cream, with specifics such as the amount of air being whipped into them being brought up. It's like he was experienced in the realm of ice cream. A connoisseur, of sorts. I just pictured this fat kid sitting behind his computer, with buckets of different kinds of ice cream in front of him in various states of being eaten, with ice cream smothered all over his face, typing in his post as he tried to decide which ice cream was superior to all the others, taking into full account all the factors involved, including cold retention, fat content, flavour, and the volumetric and density effects of it being air whipped or not.

Don't worry about him, he's just another retarded troll. Wait, that's an insult to retards.
I'm no troll. I just have a sense of humour that doesn't always translate online. Check my post history if you care to.

I don't get why you're insulting me over pretty much nothing.
