We were at Safeway today doing some shopping and I thought of this thread.

They didn't have HD Strawberry ice cream either (only Strawberry sorbet), so I left with B & J peach cobbler, I hope it's good.

Yes, that's a very very good flavor. I have one of those in my B&J collection in the freezer. I have rotation of 16 flavors of B&J, and sometimes a couple HD thrown in on the side.

I had read Breyers can't label their product Ice Cream anymore, it is Ice Milk or Frozen Dairy Dessert
It may of just been a Canadian thing though
Lord I hate it when I've bought what I thought was Ice Cream and looked and it was Ice Milk

Nope breyers is called "Frozen Dairy Dessert" for most of their packages here in the US. I bought one and had to throw it away, tasted awful.

Store brands taste better than breyers.

Turkey Hill has a 100% natural ice cream, just like the orignal breyers. I think its only in Van and Choc and has to say 100% natural on the package.

If you live in Michigan than Hudsonville ice cream is outstanding.

French vanilla is utterly ridiculous. Also a fan of their blueberry cobbler, grand traverse bay cherry fudge and their butter pecan.

Nothing else compares IMO.

Breyers is terrible. Not sure if it was ever that good. In the early days they marketed it as superpremium-ish, but I don't remember it ever being that great.

Ben & Jerry's has definitely gone downhill since the sale. Still decent, but the old days are gone.

Around here (North Jersey), for the commonly-available selection I would say either Edy's Grand or Welsh Farms. They're both pretty darn good. In terms of what you can't get at the store... Denville Dairy is awesome, and I think Coldstone is usually very good as well.

No mention of Brigham's vanilla?

Only Brignham's vanilla flavor has that distinct candy-like taste that no other ice creams have.

Anyone who likes Breyers is on my list for gene-pool cleansing.

I generally buy Dreyers as a regular go-to. It's not the best, but it's a good value. In California, Clover-Stornetta is probably the best brand but has limited distribution.

You notice that too? It reminds me of a frozen version of the creme in the middle of Oreos

A reasonable suspicion, but looking at their website, Breyer's is 11% fat, 7g of fat in a 66g serving. Which meets the minimum 10% milk fat requirement of the FDA to be labeled as ice cream.

Vague much? What flavors?

They do have Van and Choc that meet the federal Minimum standards for “Ice Cream” but most of their other flavors are labeled "Frozen Dairy Dessert" for a reason.

I looked at their vanilla and chocolate. It looks like many of their other flavors can't be classified as ice cream.

Talenti Sea Salt caramel. Haven't had a single HD flavor worthy of a rescoop.

Ben & Jerrys makes the best for random flavors

breyers makes the best vanilla

No they do not. You really need to try others.
Breyers only has 11% fat which barly meets the Federal Min. to be called ice cream. Turkey hills natural Van has 15%, Ben+Jerrys is 22%, and Haagen Dazs is 26%.

Publix Brand > *

Yup, the "Chocolate Trinity" is insanely good, thick dark chocolate base, fudge ribbons throughout and marble-sized chocolate "pearls" that explode chocolate flavor in your mouth, Publix owns their own dairy processing plant, their ice cream is unsurpassed in quality and it's often on sale for $3,50/gal..
