Wow, ABC is the only channel you can receive with the indoor antenna. You're not going to receive blue or violet code channels without a big outdoor unit. The Fox station is going to be a problem.

Lot of the antennas have color codes outside the box to tell you which channels you can pick up. I have the RCA ANT751 which is only color coded for Yellow, Green, and Red. I can't pickup Blue or Violet coded channels.

You're going to need something like Winegard HD7698P with something like this preamp. The Winegard antenna is rated blue. They don't make violet code antenna. For violet color, you're supposed to use blue antenna with preamp. You might try installing it without preamp to see if you can pickup the Fox channel. If you can't or the signal is weak, then add the preamp. No point in buying the preamp if it works without it.

Double check with TVfool to make sure the AntennaWeb info is accurate. The TV Fool site is more comprehensive and accurate. You have to make sure the antenna is pointed in the direction of the Fox. You can use the iPhone compass app for that.

I'm no antenna expert. All this is just what I read and learned while researching the antenna for my house. Mine is in the attic which supposedly cuts the effectiveness by 50%. But I'm less than 20 miles away from all the stations. I can pickup all the major channels like ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, PBS, TBS, Univision, etc with regular indoor antenna. I added the attic antenna because my wife wanted to watch KBS and MBC which are two Korean channels the indoor antenna couldn't pick up.

You can also ask the sales people at Solid Signal for the type of antenna you would need.

TVtool is giving me drastically different result. Link Looks like an indoor antenna of some type would work to get the major channels according to this. I can do a roof mount but would highly prefer not too. Thoughts?

I would go with TV fool results. They're supposed to be more accurate and complete. I would buy good preamp indoor antenna and test and see if you can pickup FOX. I would buy locally so you can easily return if it doesn't work. Based on that TV fool page, you should be able to buy small indoor/outdoor antenna like the RCA I have in the attic and pickup ABC, CBS, and FOX.

That's a big statement. I'd almost just buy a couple more live hubs. I really love mine minus the really long boot time.

It surprises me that you don't see that much difference between the XBMC Chromebox and the WDTV Live Hub. Don't get me wrong, the Hub was great for awhile. I never shut mine off, so the boot time was a non-issue, although the main reason for that was the ungodly long boot time. Once the library got over 400 or 500 titles, though, navigating through the thumbnails was just painfully slow. I literally waited a year for a box with a hardware update from Western Digital, but it never came. Even the newest boxes are still sporting that 800MHz Sigma chip that just lacks the horsepower. My overclocked Raspberry Pi with OpenELEC runs more smoothly than the WDTV Live Hub (although the WD was/is able to play back some slightly higher bitrate files). It didn't support DLNA metadata nearly as well as XBMC, either. The final straw was when I started using DLNA/UPnP servers on my media devices (BubbleUPnP, Mezzmo Android, etc.) and WDTV Live would disable use of the regular remote control anytime you cast a file to the WDTV and you would be forced to use the device as a remote control.

I finally gave up and when someone popped up on the AVSforums complaining that he couldn't find a WDTV Live Hub for a decent price anymore, I jumped on it. The YouTube Add-On is so much better on XBMC, too. Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Sounds like a plan. I don't have much local and since I'm buying so much from amazon to start with may as well add one to the cart there. So many choices it about boggles my mind looking at them.

My usage was much simpler, just to watch movies and TV shows I couldn't DVR. Watch once and delete so not a whole lot of scrolling. Everything was local as well. XBMC will be a drastic difference and I am very exiting to get it up and running.

Well before you hack your Chromebox, make sure to boot into ChromeOS and pickup your free Google goodies. Free 100gb of Google Drive storage for 2 years and free 60 day trial of Google Music.

Well placed the order finally. DS214, two 3TB WD Red's, Chromebox, HP IR box, and a Terk antenna. Plus a chromecast for my 8 year old, just simpler for her than another box. Can't wait to get started!

Well I got everything in. I screwed the order up and need to order another HD. Got the NAS set-up and after much frustration and aggravation got sick beard working properly, getting the permissions correct was the problem. Have a test for couchpotatoe going now, question is will it post process correctly which was another big problem with sick beard. Tomorrow I'll start working on the chrome box, chrome cast and HD antenna.

Yes, it's kind of a pain to set these up but it will be so worth it later when you get them right! Yes, the post processing part is especially hard to get right, but you'll figure it out.

I ended up turning off couchpotato though as I found it really hard to control how it downloads (it keeps downloading different copies of the same thing, wasting my bandwidth). I don't really use it that much anyway.

The test for couch finished and it worked perfectly. Used the safari extension to select the movie and send the file to sab and then cp moved the finished file to the correct folder. Got this part down. Tomorrow is XBMC time.

Good luck!! Be sure to try some of the other skins(my fav is Aeon), and ask questions if you hit a snag!!

Any tips or tricks for the harmony remote setup? From my understanding you just add it as a MCE remote but any tips or tricks that makes it work better or add functionality. I'll also use the iOS app but my wife hates them as we have a harmony smart control hub and she only uses the little remote that comes with it.

Well the remote isn't working at all. I've tried it as Windows Media Center SE and Windows Media Center Extender, nothing. I have this remote and this IR. It was going so well until this point.

anybody ever try a Warpia product?

http://www.warpia.com/swp800series.html

I haven't but I think the boats pretty much sailed at this point.

I'm thinking of just going with a FLIRC at this point. Evidently they evidently have an XMBC setting for Harmony now that's looking to be working even though it's in beta. Probably toss that in the cart with my second HD. I'm liking it so well I may pick up a Rasberry Pie for the bedroom, just need to get the remote figured out.

hasn't sailed for me. i am happy with my roku 3. i can stream videos from my pc just fine and dandy and i like the services Roku works with. i am getting the directv subscription so i can stream nfl games to my android devices and pc. so i need to be able to stream that directly to my tv, which is just around the corner from my desk in my room in the living room, so a short 10 foot wiring job.

. i don't want to get a new box or build one. this is 60 bucks and if it does that, it's perfect.

i need to know if that solution works well or has for anyone.

FLIRC works great for this. Just don't make the mistake I did when setting up. You'll use the FLIRC profile in the Harmony Setup and then you'll set up your keys with the FLIRC software.

This is just confusing me. Spent about an hour last night reading trying to figure out how it worked. It seemed I finally understood that all you had to do was install the beta firmware on the FLIRC and then add the profile via myharmony.com and it would work without needing to program anything buttons via the FLIRC application. Guess I'll figure it out when it gets here. In the time I was deciding what to buy it sold out from the regular seller is now $30 to get prime shipping.

Got the Flirc and second HD in today. The Flirc works like a charm. Simply plugged it in and added it through the my harmony. No need to update the firmware or even download the Flirc app, simply plug and play. The one thing I haven't figured out yet is to get it to shut off the XBMC on power down but that's a Logitech thing and not a Flirc thing. The second HD is being RAIDed now. I would highly highly recommend this set-up to anyone looking get a high quality media center. It has a very good WAF so far as well.

Glad you got everything working well. I switched to using the Logitech Revue Google TV keyboard.

I had the keyboard in storage and didn't know I could use it with Logitech unifying nano receiver and use it with other devices. Revue keyboard is similar to Logitech K400 except it has extra media keys like rewind, play, pause, fast forward which comes in extra handy in XBMC. And unlike K400, the K700 Revue keyboard works in the Chromebox developers boot screen so I can select which OS to boot into. I like having physical keyboard because I frequently boot into ChromeOS. Most of the time I'm using Chrome rather than XBMC. And in XBMC, it's really handy for those "Are you human" text inputs required by lot of the free streaming hosting servers. Those inputs drive me crazy when I'm using the AppleTV2 XBMC. The AppleTV remote is like the worst when it comes to any kind of text input.

For text entry I've been using the XBMC iPad app, works well. Actually is a really good app overall and find myself using it to browse for media instead of inside XBMC itself.
