The greatest confusion is the different reviews in different sites over SX30 VS HX100V

Still not able to decide...

1080p vs. 720p is only of some importance if you use it to shoot video. I have had the SX-30 for about a year, and taken it overseas. It does a nice job. I have never shot so much as 1 second of video with it.

Hi All

Finally HX100V Launched in India with a price tag of Rs 22,990.
Canon SX 30 IS is selling in 28,125 (Includes Pouch, and Charger also)

Today i had my hands on HX100V ,It's amazing...what bothered me was it's 30x zoom.....was not so effective as compared to 35x zoom of canon.

Even it is understood that the later one has extra 5x zoom.

As per my observations:

Sony can deliver more clear images than SX30 IS (As no CA),THE AUTOFOCUS IN SONY WAS BREATHE TAKING...

I Basically want a camera which mostly (85%) for outdoor shooting, while travelling in local places.

Kindly suggest me one of these....i am in a great DILEMMA.

And also please let me know what is RAM Image ?

Thank you all for taking interest in my query....

Sounds to me like your evaluation makes the Sony a better performer for less money - that says, better value.

Never heard of RAM image. What's the context?

I've had my SX10 for 2 years now. When I bought it I wanted the SX-1 because of the 1080P video but it was too expensive and was going to take too long to be released. Now that i've had the SX10 I'm much happier than I didn't go for the SX-1 because I don't shoot video often, and when I do I find that 640x480 looks really good while still being a manageable file size.

I also LOVE that it has NOTHING proprietary on it. Standard (and easily replaceable) mini-USB cable, SD memory and AA batteries. This same reason is my primary reason for never buying Sony.

I have never been a Sony fan, but I bought the HX100V and I'm very happy with it.

FYI, it uses a USB3.0 cable, SDHC memory, and a standard Sony camera battery (lots of generics available).

I would go with the Canon sx30. Sony is generally too heavy-handed with noise reduction, and their images look like water color paintings upon close inspection.

Just on the dpreview comparison, the Canon wins on the focal lengths, the Sony wins (big) on continuous shooting.

Sony also wins in their movie mode, not only for 1080p, but also for using h.264 instead of mjpeg.

I'd guess Sony's CMOS sensor is better for lowlight noise. But they can be heavy handed with noise reduction, as mentioned; which may mitigate the advantages of low noise when you've lost all the detail. That may or may not be an issue on this particular model though. Some great looking shots are posted in the dpreview Sony Talk forum.

Canon is pretty consistent with yearly releases on these models though. I bet the successor is announced around September, and uses a CMOS sensor.

Based on specs, OP could also consider the FujiFilm FinePix HS20 EXR. Dunno if it's any good though. RAW capture is always nice to have available.

Here's a lengthy thread that tries to compare it to the other superzooms.
