I haven't really been into this whole website design thing for a long long time, so I haven't got a clue about whats hot and whats not anymore, so help me out

I've been doing a bit of PHP and HTML coding at work, but I have the luxury of using Linux on my workstation there, so I've been using Quanta 3.x there, and I like it alot.
When dinosaurs walked the earth, and I did some webstuff at home last time, I used HotDog Pro, which I liked alot, and after paying a visit to Sausage Software's homepage I noticed they're at least still around.

What Im wondering is, is HotDog still a good tool?
IIRC Hotdog 6.x was the version I used back then, and it's still the version they advertise on their site, is it still somewhat up to date?

Anyone got any good suggestions or input?

Oh and yes I know all about notepad, ms-dos edit, etc etc, but like I said, Im used to Quanta, so...

I like using PHPEdit, it's a freeware tool last I checked. Despite the name, it is meant for more than just PHP. It will recognize most programming languages, ie: Perl, ASP, VB, C/C++ to name a few. I think it has a built-in IDE routine, but I never actually used it tho.

Another vote for Homesite/Dreamweaver. Homesite is great if you just want text, but with Dreamweaver you can take advantage of both gui and text based. There is a little button you click to switch. Sometimes its easier to use the gui... Especially if you haven't been elevated to gurudom. It really offers little help for php besides highlighting code and autocompletion of some things. Dreamweaver also lets you download extensions from the macromedia exchange site, which are basically code snippets, stuff like that. Macromedia Exchange

The only version of Dreamweaver I've ever used is with MX Studio so I have no opinion on other versions but I've used HomeSite 4 and 5.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll have a look at Homesite, I used it once before, long time ago though, don't remember what version.

I'll give PHPEdit a look as well

Thanks a bunch people.
