ok, so I know what I will be getting but the gc still has be stumbiling around.

I do game but im not a BIG gamer, so I dont need the best of the best. just want some thats pretty dang good.
now, at the moment I dont have plans of upgrading to a dx10 card.

200 for the card is the max I am willing to pay, but if there is one for less all the better.

I dont need a all in one card, I just want the best or as close to the best that I can for 200. if its clockable thats not a bad thing but not a must.

I mentioned in one of my other threads that I had been looking at the
SAPPHIRE Radeon X1950PRO

pretty much looking for the best bang for the buck but nothing to cheap!!

hope im not asking for too much!!

thanx alot!!

I'd personally wait till March for the 8600s, they'll be in the $200 price range and will blow away the $300 cards out now.

Best bang for the buck stock is 1950pro about $170

Best bang for the buck for overclockers is 7900GS about $150.

Up in the $210 range is 1950XT

How do you know the 8600's will blow away cards like the x1950xt? Given the current state of g80 drivers and that for $200 you can buy cards as fast as last year's $500 cards, I'd say $200 today buys you a lot of performance for the money.

I was in the same position this week. Ended up picking up a Sapphire 1950Pro 512MB for $189 after rebate from NewEgg. Sitting on my desk right now waiting to be installed. It will be replacing my tried and true x800GTO2 @ x850XT.

cause I was looking at this chart here and its scoring pretty low compared to a number of cards. but those might all be over 200, so I dont know!!

This x1950xt for $215 after rebate is about 95% as fast as the 512mb x1900xt that sold for $500 a year go.

Also, if you're into overclocking you can get this 7950gt for $200 after rebate and OC it to 7900gtx speeds or higher.

The x1900xt (and x1950xt) runs pretty close to its max already. You can usually get them to xtx speeds, but it's only a 25mhz bump, and the increased performance is hardly noticeable anyways.

At the moment I would recommend any of the X1900's over the comparable 7900's. You can't argue with the design and all- they are really nice cards.

However, I would HIGHLY recommend waiting for the next gen mid-range cards. The 8600's outclass many of those cards and bring much improved IQ and AA|AF quality. If you prefer ATI, then wait until they release their cards as well. These next gen cards are really a leap over this gen (Geforce 7 and X1xxx) irregardless of DX 10 support or not.

I don't understand waiting if you got games you want to play now. Hardware always gets cheaper and faster so what you're telling him is kinda intuitive..wait wait wait wait...Meanwhile he's stuck in misery...possibly forever using your model as something always cheaper and faster is right around the corner. Always.

I never wait. I buy what i need enjoy it till it gets slow then look at competing products the next time around and buy the fastest product at the price ceiling I set. Clearly the X1950pro is the card to buy @<$200 today.

I would wait for ATI's next batch as well as Nvidia's 8 series mid range being that they are so close. But, if you have to have something right now, a 1950pro or a 7900GT would be fine.

Where are you from techboi?

If it is him, the mods might perma ban him for creating another account. He should have just waited til his vacation was over.
