When I used to shave I just used an electric razor. Get a good one and expect to pay a few hundred bucks, but it will last you years and make the job so much easier. Why bother with a super clean shave when you're going to have to do it again the next day anyway. I still use it when trimming a bit, but I find an actual trimmer works better for that so got one of those too.

I would normally shave off my beard in summer but with the longer hair I find it completes the look better. I want to go a full year so I won't trim it until September. I'm starting to look like Tormund these days.

I've used a Mach 3 for years, with blades easily lasting 1-1.5 months between changes. New cartridges may seem expensive, but I don't think $1-$2 per blade in a refill pack (if you find them on sale or have a massive coupon) is that big a deal. Though, as soon as my Mach 3 blades run out, I'll be switching over to a Fusion Proglide. I had 2 free samples that I recently used, and I found they were much better than the Mach 3.

Went to a Merkur double edge safety razor with Feather blades probably a decade ago and never looked back.

Try electrolysis! Costs more money than a razor but saves time and money long term!

I bought a Parker adjustable safety razor and tried it for the first time this morning. Amazing that something I used daily from my teens into my early 20's I totally forgot how to use. I guess it is a skill I'll eventually relearn.

Do you shave every single year though?
I don't shave as much as I did. I've always had a goatee, but the last bunch of years I let the sides grow in winter. I'm also not particular cause I don't have to be. I'm not in an office or suit for work, so I don't keep up with it rigorously. Even with clean shaved every day, there'd still be lots of blade left, and consumables wouldn't raise the cost to more than $2 year. That's buying my budget stuff. I've lucked in to a lot of soaps and stuff from flea/thrift shops. You can pay as much as you want for "male grooming" though, but at least the blade/strop/stone's a fixed, and done cost.

If I ever shave again, I will look into one of those ... but, I haven't shaved since ... 1996 other than a few "one off" shaves for shits and giggles...

I ended up buying a safety razor off amazon, it will be here tomorrow. I was going to get a Viking Chieftan but after reading in the reviews people said there was a knockoff version that is very similar on amazon for 11 bucks that was pretty good so I ordered that one

Damn you must have an epic beard.

I usually shave it off in summer but think I'll keep mine year round now since I really like the look on me. For this year I'm going for a yeard and let it go till September (which is when I started) but from that point on I'll probably keep it shorter.

I should check to see how many pencils I can put in it now. I might have to buy more.

I had an epic beard in the past, I don't shave it, but I do trim it, usually keep it to like a few inches or so ...
Sadly, over the last 9 or 10 years, it's been going grey ....

I found a few white hairs in mine, but I hope I get to keep the red for a long time. Though if it goes full white that will be kind of cool too I guess. By then the economy will be pretty tough so I can just get a gig as a mall Santa.

As long as you don't try to get a gig at the same mall as Perknose, no way either of us could compete with him for that job!

Bearded now. Double edge safety razor that was my great grandfather's with Feather blades. Get'em cheap off Amazon.

I actually have a few of those razors now -- still usually use great-grandad's.
