RAZR maxx has been ordered

I figure, at the end of the day, it's more likely that I'll be able to upgrade the RAZR's operating system than upgrade the Galaxy's camera/batter life.

Three days ago the Galaxy Nexus was only $99 through Amazon Wireless? It's $259 now! This is for an upgrade/existing contract extension with VZW.

The would've voted for the Nexus, but how nice is it there are a LOT of great alternatives?

Razr, Rezound, Nexus... Really, they're all REALLY nice phones!

Have had a Razr and a Rezound, currently have a Galaxy Nexus. If I was going to buy a Verizon phone right now it would be the Rezound no contest.

picked up my RAZR maxx today.

can't do much with it since it's not activated (and I can't activate it until tomorrow, when my corporate phone guys get in), but I can't get over how light it is compared to my Evo 4g. noticeably thinner too, although the extra LxW may cause issues with some of my pants (that my Evo already habitually falls out of)

I would love to hear some details on why you think this way. Got my wife a Rezound a couple weeks ago, and have been trying to decide if I should get a Rezound or a Nexus for myself. So any details you could share would be welcome.

it was 99 on a new contract. it was always 259 on an upgrade.

right, and the deal is back.

$100 new vzw customer
$180 adding as additional line
$260 upgrade (which is more expensive than if you did it with a new-every-2).

Rezound's camera by itself more than makes up for every single advantage the GN has over it. The Rezound has an actual extended battery option for people who want a phone that lasts all day regardless of how you use it. I'm missing having a MicroSD card. Rezound's screen is quite a bit better.

Pretty sure the Nexus has better battery life than the Rezound stock vs. stock, and it also has an extended battery.

The Rezound has bloat in the form of Verizon and other 3rd party apps as well as Sense throughout the OS. It also doesn't have ICS.

Stock vs stock sure, but both have battery life too poor for stock to ever be an option on either phone imo. Rezound lasts close to twice as long as the GN if both have the extended option. The GN's extended is such a tiny improvement it is just about unnoticeable. ICS is waaaay overrated. It's good but it's not great.

Rezound's extended battery really bumps out the back. No thank you. I'd rather carry around two batteries than turn my phone into a brick.

I've gotten along just fine with the Nexus extended battery (almost imperceptible increase in thickness), and I use my phone pretty damn heavily each and every day.

If ICS were overrated we wouldn't have a thread on it with nearly 78,000 views, nor a forum poll in which 46 people voted for the Nexus, and the Rezound didn't even get 1 vote. I tried ICS once and now I no longer even consider Android phones that don't have it.

HTC = bloated battery hog. Each new phone is just another variant of the HD2. But don't take my word for it, they apparently admit it themselves.

Wouldn't touch a Rezound with a 10 foot pole. Its thicker, heavier, and is crippled with HTC Sense and Verizon bloatware. Plus, the Nexus actually has the better screen. And ICS is worth it over Ginger-Sense.

For a personal user, the Nexus is the best phone that Verizon offers, hands down. That said, for a corporate phone, I think the Razr MAXX is an excellent choice due to its insane battery life. Being a corporate phone, an individual won't root it and the locked bootloader effectively becomes irrelevant. The lag from Blur and easily be nipped by installing your launcher of choice.

To be fair, I think most of the hype with the Nexus is that it has ICS. In every pro/con comparison list that I've seen, the main thing that the Nexus has over the Rezound or whatever phone it's being compared to is that it has ICS, which I don't really see as a compelling reason in and of itself to buy a Nexus over something else, as long as the something else is going to get ICS soon.

I would love to fast forward a few months to when the Rezound has an official ICS build and see how many people would still say "GN no question". If I'm signing a contract for 2 years it doesn't matter to me personally if I have to wait a couple months to get ICS if the phone *will* have ICS for the majority of the 2 years, and it has other advantages over the Nexus. It's amusing to me how many people say "GN no question" but their only reason is that it has ICS (if "you" personally have given other reasons then I am obviously not talking about "you" specifically ).

Now, I'm still sporting a flip-phone, so understand where I am coming from. I'm not quite ready to buy yet, and am really torn over the decision between a Rezound and a Nexus. I just like to hear people give their opinions on the pros and cons.

The physically larger size (I keep my phone in my pants pocket), the higher relative price (it's $100 more expensive which is not insignificant), and the lesser-quality camera (I know this can be subjective) are the main factors making this decision hard for me. Although, I think if I were to see a price drop that brought the Nexus close to $100 for add-a-line then I'd probably just get one and quit worrying about it. I'm also a little worried that the next version of LTE hardware is going to make these phones look like junk, too...

When it eventually gets ICS, it's still going to have Sense running on it. I got the Nexus primarily because I don't like how manufacturers feel the need to put their own crap over stock Android. It's the main reason why phones like the Rezound have to wait for ICS (or any update).

That and HTC phones are battery hogs, come with Verizon's bloat (in addition to HTC's own bloat), and their physical designs are quite dull. I don't want to have to root/rom my phone just to get stock, bloat-free Android.

Oh how I love that. I see the same thing with cable companies. The new deals are pretty much always a lot better than any deal for existing customers. I understand as a business that it's important to get new customers but I think it's just as important to keep your current ones.

That said, since I've been out of contract with Verizon couldn't I pretty much set it up like a new contract?

Considering I'm coming from a Samsung flip phone, a phone which works but I actually wish I could re-activate my superior Razr V3c, makes me think I would be happy with just about any phone. I don't think I need to get caught up with the latest phone nor do I really care about modding it. I think I'll just filter by 4G phones and look for one that's around $100 with 2 year contract.

BOGO Deal for Razr MAXX starts 2/10, Double data plans too

Hey Loki, def look this up come Friday and bug VZW to upgrade you to the deal.

As far as Rez vs Nexus... Personally I think its hardware superiority vs software superiority. In nearly every way, the Rez has as good or better hardware than the nexus. The screen is as good, if not arguably better (this always gets subjective.) The camera is much better, the reception is much better and both have fast processors and a gig of ram. The nexus does have NFC, but its still pretty rare anyways, and will be some time before its really implemented.

I get respectable batt life on my Rez. I go comfortably a day on a charge with avg use. Streaming 4G vids will kill the batt, but reg usage is fine. Neither are stellar with batts so its bit of a wash. Do not like the ext batt on the Rez tho. Large and curved on the back. Get a MAXX if you want lots of off the plug life.

IMO, the perfect phone would be the rez with pure 4.0. For me, the Rez works better at doing phone things (ie getting reception and taking good pix) so I prefer it of the two. Plus the GN and the MAXX are too big IMO to fit in my pockets nicely.
I can't say enough how good the reception on the phone is. I've had 4 4G phones, and I never knew I had 4G at my house before. I'm on a fringe area, and the other phones would drop 4G a mile or two away. I get 10 up/10down on speedtest in my living room on 4G.

I think he picked the Razr Maxx. I personally have the GNex from a Bionic. ICS is such an amazing OS compared to 2.3.4. So much smoother and much more polished. I really don't have any issues with the hardware of the GNex much to my surprise.

I've finally got my settings tweaked so I can easily get about 20-24 hours with 2.5-3 hours of screen on time. This with wifi, bt, gps, 4g all enabled all day. BT is connected to my car for about 1.5 hours each day. Wifi only connected at home...so for about 9-10 hours. 4g connected while driving with sparse connection at work. My 4g turns off with the screen off however. 15 minute sync intervals for my Gmail, Yahoo, and work Exchange account.

I lose 1-2% an hour on idle.

Phone is awesome but to each his own. My work iPhone 4s is also nice. But my Verizon service sucks big ones here in Dallas...lol.
