At the price the 290/290X are better. If you absolutely want nvidia the 970 is significantly better in newer titles, uses less power, has more vram, and overclocks like a boss.

Anything Kepler is a nogo unless its exceedingly cheap.

Uhh does someone want to talk me out of this?

GTX 780 Ti for under $400.

That's an absolutely terrible deal. EVGA Classified 780TI was $299.99 on Newegg and I didn't even bother posting it in the Hot Deals section. Why? Because in the last 7-8 months Kepler's performance has taken such a dive, that it's safer to buy a $310 GTX970. You'll get a card at least as fast, slightly more VRAM, lower power usage, and 2 awesome games: TW3 and Batman AK.

EVGA ACX 2.0 is $310 on Newegg with those 2 games.

If you are really raising your budget from $200-250 all the way to $385 USD, might as well wait 4-5 weeks and see what R9 390 series brings. You waited this long, and AMD should have a hard launch on June 24th, which might even result in some price drops for 970/980 cards. If you want to buy now, I would take 970 with 2 AAA games over a 780Ti even if 780Ti was $299 USD. Right now a 780Ti is only as fast as an R9 290X and uses 270W of power. Doesn't sound like a great deal at $385 at all.

Whelp didn't know that it took that much of a nose dive. I thought it was still competitive.

Been living with my laptop so far and really haven't missed anything much from my desktop. I'll see what the 3xx series has to offer at around $200.

Yes. Buying anything < Maxwell when nVIDIA has abandoned them (growing performance gap between Kepler and Maxwell, and Kepler losing to GCN in newer titles) is asking for trouble.

Dumped my 780s for R9 290s a couple of months back for that reason (that and 4GB of VRAM, instead of 3GB or "3.5GB")

Wise decision.

Still wait for Radeon R3xx series, then decide

Now I'm waiting for R390X HBM 8GB WC -> This One is for Me
I'm always buying GPU's every second Gen -> R280X (earlier 7970GHz) skipped R290X and now i need more POWER ! So the R390X is next.

Anyone who can wait a month to buy a video card, should wait another month to see what AMD's new generation brings to the table before deciding. It's only a month.

While that may be true some people just want a card now. If you have to buy now take a look at used as well. I picked up two evga 970s for 190 a piece used. Even with the refresh under 200 for 970 performance should still be under what they will sell for even if amd hits it out of the park.

Just dont buy Kepler used

Not related to the GPU discussion but you will need a new CPU upgrade to take full advantage of a card that fast. Perhaps you can combine your R9 300 series upgrade with a Skylake rebuild.

:thumbsup: Good man. Awesome love hearing stories when gamers find great deals on new/used GPUs!

yeah definitely a used Maxwell card is the best bet right now

try to find a used 970, there should be some on the used market because people sell them over the 3.5 + 0.5 ram issue
