What is the best iOS video player for my iPad ?

I want to be able to play all my Youtube videos, movies, and tv shows.

Infuse 4 for AppleTV is already out, and the iPad / iPhone version is supposed to be out before the end of December 2015.

vlc doesn't support ac3.

BTW, Infuse 4 will require a minimum of iOS 8.

The table you provided lists everything except iOS.

EDIT:

To be clear, vlc for iOS used to support ac3, but they removed ac3 support several versions ago, and furthermore, the older ac3-compatible version is no longer available via the iTunes store. So if you're downloading and installing vlc today, you'll get the lastest version with no ac3 support.

They had to remove ac3 from the iOS version for licencing reasons. OTOH, vlc for OS X includes ac3 support... but it's not on the Mac app store either.

VLC for iOS v 2.4.1 app ruined

The latest update to VLC ruined the app and sent it from 5 stars to none. Prior to this update it played all my mkv's and other video files just fine. Now it says AC3 audio not supported.

We had to remove it due to a legal threat from Dolby Laboratories asking us $8,000,000 per year for it.

BTW, I actually have the old version of vlc for iOS with ac3 support, but I don't bother using it because Infuse 3.6 is a better player. I'm careful not to update my vlc for iOS though, just in case.

had to google it, ac3 is a dolby format. generally used in the industry to support professional film. pardon my ignorance but i don't see how this feature would be missed.

Uh, ac3 is one of the most common audio formats out there in mkv internetland. It is not just a Dolby format, it is THE Dolby format. How common is it? Just about every surround receiver for the last 15 years supports ac3. Every DVD player ever produced supports ac3, because it's a mandatory supported format for DVD players. Same goes for Blu-ray. Audio output from video game consoles is in ac3. And so on.

IOW, for many people, vlc on iOS is near useless these days.

Honestly, it sounds like you don't actually have much experience with vlc on iOS, or audio formats in general.

AFAIK there is no proper hardware acceleration for vlc in iOS. Or there wasn't in 2.5.x IIRC. So video playback choked on slower hardware and used up a lot of battery on all iOS hardware.

Plus it was not particularly stable. 2.6.x is probably more stable but I see nothing in the change log mentioning addition of full hardware acceleration on iOS.

Looks like Infuse 4 won't be out for iOS before the end of December 2015 but that is ok.

vlc on iOS isn't so good. On Mac OS X it is, but not so much on iOS.

Infuse is great. From what I understand its basically a VLC branch with a much better UI. If you want to watch just about any torrented file the ac3 support is really important.

nPlayer is the other big one I hear about, but Infuse is the one I own.
Also there is MC Player. Its a branch of Kodi (XBMC) that got neutered for apple store. You can sideload the real Kodi on apple TV at least.
