Best Virtual Credit Card service?

I've recently been hearing a lot of horror stories of paypal users getting their linked bank account funds drained by paypal and of buyers scamming sellers by claiming their packages have not been received. etc etc.

I haven't run into problems personally, but I still feel like linking my CC to paypal is a bad idea. Anyone have suggestions for setting up an online virtual cc that I can dump funds into for safer paypal and online shopping? Anyone have any experience with this?

You can use a SafeShop number. Most FIA cards (Bank Of America, et al.) offer it.

CitiBank and MBNA credit cards offer virtual one time credit card numbers.

don't link a bank account to paypal.

i use a citibank virtual cc # for all online transactions. you can even set a $$ limit to them.

i use a citibank virtual cc # for all online transactions. you can even set a $$ limit to them.

Can I do this if I don't own a real citibank card and am not a citibank account holder?

Yes you can if you're a CitiBank credit card holder.

Why don't you just use a real credit card? I have a visa through Chase and I can dispute pretty much whatever I want. Good credit FTW

The problem with not linking a bank account is you get charged $3 every time you want to withdraw cash after a sale or some such. Luckily, I can dispute things easily through Chase, even on my checking account. I keep limited funds in the account just in case, but I'm confident that I can get my money back if something did happen.

also I want to keep my 'confirmed' (or is it verified) status for paypal because I withdraw over $500 monthly. I believe you have to be confirmed with a bank account to have that limit lifted, or am I wrong?

According to paypal's TOS, they can grab funds from your linked bank account when they feel like it (well, when they determine they are losing money because of shady behaviour). How confident are you that Chase will side with you if that were to happen?

IIRC, paypal has their own Virtual Debit Card you could sign up for.

To the OP, these two features are equivalent (Citi VAN & MBNA ShopSafe). I believe Citi has slightly better card offerings than MBNA.

I still need a good cashback card to replace the Click Citi card, which ended years ago. The only catch is I am not applying for any new account.
