Best Virus Software

I've been using BitDefender 8 Pro Plus the last few months but for some reason the virus shield doesn't show it scanning files as I browes my computer. Not sure why, this first happend when I first installed, it worked for a few days then the status would come up as 0 for scanned files, even as I was browsing my computer. I did a compleate format and reinstall of XP, installed it again and the same thing happend. So i'm not even sure if the real-time virus protector is working or not because it dosen't give a status. So i'm in the market for new virus software. I've been interning at a museum and they use the full version of AVG, then my C++ teacher swears by Norton SystemWorks. So just wanted to get some feedback here as well since I think BitDefender's real-time scanning isn't working and i've tried everything to get it work.

www.av-comparatives.org has some February 2005 virus-detection comparisons that could help you make up your mind too. Whatever you get, make sure to fully configure it to use all its goodies. Welcome to the Forums

Thanks for the welcome and thanks for the links. I'm looking into Kaspersky Anti-Virus Personal 5.0 since that got such a good score with the tests. Anyone have any comments about it??

I used their trialware and liked it. Some people say it's heavy on the resource usage. I did get it for Mom and my little sister but am still on AntiVir myself.

LOL, well its my first post here....I think. Thanks for the setup information, i'm downloading there trial version now. One question though. Already having virus softwear on my computer, will it effect the new one? Of course i'll have it turned off but what about stuff in the regestry? Thanks agian.

thanks, thats what I was planning on doing. I just wasn't sure about the regestry, I've been told that it can screw up other virus softwear.

I had Macafee on my last computer and wasn't impressed at all. That was a few years ago though so maybe i'll give that a try as well. Thanks for the suggestion.

I have ZA Pro, but its not a virus protector, it works with your anti-virus software.

IMHO the best antivirus protection can be had by using AntiVir (free), and run Trend & Panda online scans (free) occasionally.

I recommend Kaspersky if you're not a gamer. It is a very solid AV. If you game a lot and don't want the resource that Kaspersky takes, I recommend nod32.

Overall, I would recommend Kaspersky. I dunno why, but I like the interface better.
