Best Voice Recognition Software

I realize there are only two choices - IBM Viavoice 10 and Dragon Naturally Speaking 6, but I wanted opinions from the informed crowd here.

I will be using the software to provide real time transcriptions of conference calls (over the Internet and using the phone), phone calls, and possibly large meetings. I myself will probably not use the software for dictation purposes. With this in mind, what software and accessories would you recommend I purchase?

Thanks in advance.

Steve819, personally, I don't think any of the voice recognition software on the market is worth the purchase right now, they are getting better, but just not quite up to the level that would make me spend cash on either of them, hope this helps

You can get the speech sdk from microsoft, which includes a recognizer.

Both viaVoice 10 and dragon 6 work very well with training, I've found Viavoice easier to use and write programs for.

(FYI, I do research in speech recognition, or more specifically, dialogue systems, at CMU)

I don't know, $50 for IBM ViaVoice is pretty good for me.

Buying WinXP for $50 doesn't seem too hot when I can get the software for the same price.

I meant that it would be more useful if you were to use voice recognition with an application such as Microsoft Word XP. Just having voice recognition with Windows XP alone, doesn't seem too exciting. I don't think I'd waste my time controlling Windows XP through voice for the few commands that I'd typically issue the operating system to follow. However, if I was assigned the task of writing a 10,000 word term paper, the voice recognition under Office XP would probably be the best way to approach the project.

I use Dragon NS6 and it's really good. It takes a while to train it.

I would not recommend it for conference calls though, because the software must be trained for the person that uses it or it's not accurate at all.
