I've been using Broadvoice and i CAN'T TAKE IT.
Whats the best service?

Curious why you dislike BroadVoice? I've never used it but I helped a friend understand the benefits of VOIP. His wife is from Brazil and he was spending a small fortune on phone calls. Broadvoice was the only VOIP I found (actually a friend of his pointed it out) which had free calls to Brazil.

What turned you off about BroadVoice?

It has a high startup cost (about $250) but is a complete PBX solution and has $0 monthly/annual cost unless you pay for their "Premiere" features.

I've been using it for the last four months and I absolutely love it.

I've been using Viatalk without any major issues. Cost me $199 for 2 years of service. Only minor minus point is after dialing a number, sometimes it takes 20-30 seconds before it starts ringing.

This.

There is actually a small program someone wrote with the specific purpose of ripping the magicjack info from the device. I loaded this info onto an old innomdeia device from the Sunrocket days, and it works like a champ.

I've been greatly enjoying Magic Jack for the past few months. My HTPC is on all the time anyways, so it works great. I'd recommend running it as a service, so it doesn't ever pop up on the screen. I use callcentric.
Great interface, next to nothing startup cost and their support has been top notch. They even researched how to connect a VOIP adapter from another company that most VOIP companies would not support, an old vonage adapter that I hacked the firmware on.

well since 6/9 update (yesterday) the hacked ATAs / Sip are no longer working ... so until someone figures out what MJ did, be cautious on this approach ...

besides that lil hiccup, MJ is great ...

searched for threads like this before I signed up with Vonage... best history so they seem to be trustworthy. I needed a month-to-month rather than a 2-year full-blown package since it'll be the business line and I'm not paying for it myself.

mine still works. my wife talked on that phone just a couple of days ago and i just checked it now, still have dt.

update. it doesn't seem to work anymore. i get a dial tone but when dialing out, i get a fast busy. i'm going to put it back on my usb magic jack and do some more research. figure out what is going on.

Broadvoice sucks, and no fax line support - what gives...

Anyhow: I'm thinking of going VONAGE $25 + FAX LINE $10 + TAXES?

Whats the alternative?

I liked vonage for the two years I had it.

I'm going with Vonage. They seem to have the most tech support.
Might be more expensive than most voip but I need stability.

I got a MJ to test out when it was beta for Canada and it worked well on a WinXP system, but too bad that MJ doesn't support Linux.
