303HP and 553ftlbs isn't adequate? :Q

That's an assload of torque...

The V10 TDI engine also adds an extra 400lbs or so over the V8 to the nose of the already heavy Touareg. The V8 is about 5300lbs.

a double assload.

All it needs is propane injection and nos
Propane injection?

What would be the point in that?

Think of it as NOS for diesels.

"...to an awesome 634 lb/ft (860Nm) at just 2,000rpm"

It's redline is probably 4,000rpm =) I bet the stroke is so short on that diesel b!tch. 5300 lbs is quite a lot of weight to get moving, but 634 lbs of torque must do the job.

Er?

Diesel and short stroke don't exactly go together. Short stroke doesen't hinder redline, long does.

Really? Why?

Propane contains even less energy than gasoline, I guess I'm failing to see why it would help?

The TDI engines are efficient, but it's the particulate emissions that prevent it from being sold in California.

Any diesel engine that doesn't have a scrubber will have this problem.

And a scrubber would add more weight and cost...sigh.

The problem is the sulfer content. Low sulfer diesel fuel should be available in 2006. After that happens, the V10 TDI will come to California, along with a bunch of other VW diesel machines (probably Mercedes too).

Yeah, switch my short with long! =) Like the old Toyota I have for sale... 2.4 liter produces 140lb tq @ 2800 rpm but redline i 5900 (long stroke, high compression SOHC) '02 Civic has a redline of 6900 or so and it produces upwards of 100 lbs of torque @ 5000 rpm! =)

Personally, I'd say the '68-'69 Bug is the best VW ever -- 1600 dual-port and IRS transaxle -- but that's just me

Have you seen the touareg in person? Small is not something that comes to mind.... Its the huge wheels that make it look small....
