If you can't afford to go for real quality, though, perhaps a Timex would fit your needs.

Do you have a Rolex?

I bought my wife a Rolex back around 1982 and it's worth considerably more now than what the retail price was then. That particular model being out of production for some years helps.

I can't tell you what is the best brand but I can say that the worst brand of watch I've ever owned was a Fossil. $50 watch broke in under 6 months and Fossil refused to fix it despite it having a 10 year warranty.

i wear a russian automatic. It's all mechanical, sweep second hand, etc. It's probably a ripoff of a rolex mechanism

anyways. seems to be built relatively tank like, and cheap, seems reliable so far (a few years)

I've had a few relic watches that were about as good as I seen for the price.

My favorites:

Everyday wear: Rolex Sea Dweller P Serial purchased new for $3200, appraised for $4350 this summer.

Best overall watch: Breguet TransAtlantic in Platinum Case. Paid $9400 in 2001, worth ???

Cheers!

Skagens are my favorite too, attractive and functional but not too expensive. Though the one I have right now was a little over $200 so it was a bit on the high side.

well yeah, but what aren't good watches? My $100 Seiko probably keeps time just as well or nearly as well as my dad's $10,000 rolex. I don't think there are necessarily "bad" watches unlelss it's just made to break

Same here, I have 2 of them but they cost anywhere from 200-300 dollars but worth every penny.

I have a Freestyle blue face chrono I bought at Ron Jon's for about $150 that I love. The watch itself is bulletproof. The band however is not.

I've had it for several years now. No chrome left on the thing, all copper/brass/whatever showing. heh.

For the three I've purchased I paid $120, $100, and $75. For the price they have to be the best appearance and quality ratio out there. Though, my Kenneth Cole is quite nice as well.
