I have a fossil relic series watch and i love it, its indestructible. I wear it to work and beat on it daily and it still looks like it did the day i bought it. (1 year old)

Casio from the $5 bin at Walmart--because you can't notice the difference between a few nanoseconds that a $5000 watch has with "excellent workmanship" over anything else.

I bought an Esquire once (for $300) but never again. I still remember the lady's biggest benefit of the watch was that it was "extremely accurate". No one on earth can possibly notice a few billionths of a second difference. Get real (oh and I bought it because I thought it looked nice...and it did...for about a week because its so horribly crappy it scratched like sh!t)

eh, if you're the type of person that wants an expensive watch, 2k really isn't anything. My dad did spend over 10k on his watch, but then again it's been 25 years now and the price hasn't depreciated much. It's more like an investment for those that feel a nice watch is an important part of ones assembly. If a 2k watch lasts you 20 years, then it's more then worth it I feel.

Then again there are a lot of people on AT that think anything over a $10 timex is expensive so you'll find mixed opinions here.

I understand that some people like an expensive watch. I'm just saying that I'd expect that person probably makes well in excess of $100,000/year if they spend $10,000 on a watch like your father. I couldn't see anyone taking out a bank loan for a watch so they are probably bought and paid for

A question I have though--how can the value of a watch stay consistent? If I was a rich SOB and I wanted something expensive on my arm, I would certainly go for new over used?

i bought an automatic seiko from ebay for about $35 shipped. shows day/date, and has no electronic parts whatsoever (unlike a kinetic or ecodrive).

{its a cheap nextel}

I have a timex ironman b/c other than it and roaches being alive after a nuc-lee-ar ( : ) ) blast it has a chronograph and a timer. Sice i carry out procedures in lab and need something to keep time, and would rahter not carry around a timer this is quite a good investment.

My other wathch is a Luminox Navy Seals diving watch, it was about $220 and with a sapphire face and H3 dial indicators (i think they have a 10yr half life for the isotope) its pretty sweet for an analog, not very "dressy" as it were.
