Hey all,

I recently purchased a new SSD and am hoping to just clone the drive.

I am going from an Intel X25-M to a Samsung EVO 840.

My plan is to use the Samsung tool but I can't find information on cloning a boot image? I'm hoping to make this as seamless as possible

I also have an older version of Acronis True Image but I'm hoping to allign the drive and don't think my version can do that.

Thanks in advanced!

I used acronis true image 2015. I think I paid $50 for it. It cloned my win8.1 to a new raid array. I have to run check disk on my c drive before it would clone but after that it was simple. Not sure about aligning a drive however.

The Samsung Tool is about as easy as could be and it is free with the drive. That is what I use.

How old is your version of Acronis?

You will need to do it outside of Windows, just so you understand....

I'm not sure, I'll have to find the CD. It came with an HBA sata card as part of a software bundle but that was years ago.

In any case I'll probably end up using the Samsung tool and if it did not allign the drive correctly I'll use gparted on a live cd to allign the drive after cloning.

Thanks all, much appreciated.

with the samsung tool you need the os on the new drive

if you have win 7
what I use is just the win 7 image on spare drive
pop in new drive disconnect other non backup drives
do a windows repair/restore [os cd or burn a recovey disk after making back up image]
resize/expand in disk management

I went to raid 0 on my 840pro 256 for more space last weekend
secured erase the os drive ,added second drive to system , made the array ,did the restore , and resized with no issuses with win 7 backup.

Hey all,

Thanks for the replies. I ended up attaching the drive, creating a partition with disk management and then using the Samsung tool to migrate data over.

It went smoothly and the newly created partition is aligned.

Will mark this solved, in this case anyway.

Kind regards,

Lsv
