Best way to copy files with all security in W2K

I'm looking to copy from server to server and would like to create an exact replica of the source drive. I want all file permissions as well as shares to copy over. I've got a few folders where the end user have taken away permissions from the domain admins on certain files, I know that I can take the files back and everything will be fine, but I'd rather just find a utill that will copy everything regardless of the permissions.

A Gui would be superb, but I can make a cmd line work I've tried robocopy and xxcopy, but it still bombs out when trying to copy files. I've got about 110 Gig worth of data that I need to copy.

If you don't have permissions, you can't copy.

You're going to have to take permissions back. This is the exact reason why you should give change permissions instead of full control.

cacls *.* /t /e /g builtin\administrators:F

The above will give you the permissions you need. (provided you've taken ownership on anything that they've denied you access on). After you have rights you can use robocopy, scopy, or the w2k and later version of xcopy

xcopy source dest /e /v /c /i /q /h /o /x

I think that the /v switch (verify) doesn't work across networks...could be wrong though. I seem to remember some issue with that switch.

Ah shares...forgot that part.

do you have a copy of rmtshare from the nt resource kit? I just used it last night to move a bunch of home directories to a new server. I'm not sure if this applies or not but I did an old trick:

Do a DIR and pipe the output to a text file.
Open the text file with EXCEL. It will import into nice columns if you do it right.
Edit the cells so you just have a list of names and then insert a column with a call statement. You'll end up with something like this:

call process.bat userbob
call process.bat userjeff
call process.bat userjoe
..
..

Then make a process.bat that does what you want:
rmtshare \\server\%1$ /delete
rmtshare \\newserver\%1$=U:\User\%1 /grant %1:c /grant "domain admins":f

If you have the space you can run NtBackup to a file on the soure and then restore from that file on the destination. Will take care of any permission or encrypted file issues for you.
