Best way to dispose of large broken printer ... recycle or trash?

I have an HP OfficeJet d145 AIO printer that does not print. It's been sitting in my apartment for months now, and I need to get rid of it. I expect that it could be refurbished/recycled fairly easily, but I don't want to sink any more money into it (already bought new printheads and a new power supply in an effort to repair it).

Can you recycle old printers? Or should I not bother and just throw it away? I live in NYC, if that helps.

Goto www.craigslist.org. Goto the NYC section. Post it in the 'For Sale', but don't call it broken. Say that it's been "haunted", and will no longer print "except when the ghost of Caesar is inside the print drum."

No, but really... recycle technology is a major pain in the butt for individuals. If you work in a medium-large office, ask your IT guy who recycles their old CRT's and ask him if you can include the printer. The problem is that no company wants to go through the trouble of picking up a single printer for this guy or that girl, and this guy doesn't wanna pay $15 to recycle his old printer that he replaced with a $25 Samsung.

BTW, anyone want to buy a Brother MFC-4800 Copy/Laser/Fax? It works fine, but it needs a new drum. And it's not haunted like this guy's OfficeJet!
