Best way to find a cheap plane ticket for the holidays?

I know I'm a little late, but I'm trying to find a plane ticket home to Texas for Christmas break.

From LAX to DFW or DAL, departing the 23 or 24, returning the 28 or 29 - everything I've found is $500 min, and I was hoping for something under $300 (I've gotten other tickets for under $200, but that just isn't reasonable at this point).

I've tried priceline, hotwire, and orbitz, with no luck. Any other suggestions?

I'm looking at tickets to Kona next week for my mom and I to attend my uncles services. Northwest wants upwards of $1200 per. Hawaiian is about $610 per. Go figure.

Southwest is hampered in Dallas by the Wright Amendment. Even if you got a RR ticket from someone, it would still be difficult as the wright amendment protects AA's dominance in DFW area. Try booking a flight on Southwest with LAX and Dallas Love, you cannot do it. Priceline is your probably best bet. I see NWA has a ticket for $408 routing through Memphis on Orbitz 12/23-12/29

Edit: if you hang out in Dallas until New Year's day and travel on that date
12/23-01/01/04 Orbitz has AmericaWest - $285 through Phoenix
$304 if you travel new year's eve.

if southwest flys that way, check there, and also check ebay for vouchers good for anywhere in the US...you can usually find them for $100 each way I think...

Edit: seems like it's more expensive now during the holdiays but still looks like you can go for under $300...much better than $600!

if you can get a really cheap southwest ticket off of ebay or craigslist, i would recommend flying into one of the other airports in TX (such as San Antonio or Houston or whatever) and then buy a $30 ticket from that city into Dallas. SW is having a sale on TX airfare right now, so check out which cities would be the best bet. Good luck!

Cheapest I found was $363 roundtrip, LAX to DFW (Dep 12/24, Return 12/30) at Hotwire.com. Returning the 29th is about $446. You're traveling in one of the most busiest seasons. I've been on both airports last year. Big big construction at the DFW airport (world's 3rd busiest airport). Tickets are usually cheaper when you travel on a Wednesday, Thursday or Saturday. If you can flex your schedule leaving 24th and returning 31st is about $271. Good luck.
