Best way to listen to mp3s from another computer (over the internet)?

I know there's some ways to do it with Itunes, but i'm looking for other options too.
I basically want to be able to listen to (stream) my mp3s off my home computer on another computer not on the network.
i'm looking for an answer myself, but i figured someone mght have a good answer already.
there should be a way i can share all my mp3s and listen to any one i want while gone...
do i just have to use Itunes on both computers? will that even work. Is there a non itunes way?

Yep, I'd suggest making the stream private however. You need rights to broadcast publicly.

He can only listent to whats in his predefined playlist (and the order he defined them in)

yea, i know i could shoutcast a stream, but i was hoping there was a way to choose what songs i want realtime...

I remember seeing a plugin for winamp 2.x that allowed you to control the songs remotely....

indeed i can do exactly what i wanted to do with this program
you point your winamp to a stream
and then can pick songs remotely to play real time.

FTP server and client software on the host with a fat pipe on both ends. It would be like sitting in front of your computer remotely

slimserver seems to be really cool, but I can't get it to actually play a song, installed it...configured it...logged on and everything, but it buffers forever and then when it finally reaches 100% it plays about 2 seconds and then starts buffering again. I'll have to mess with it a lottle more I guess. Seems pretty dang cool though.
