There are many products out there. Which are the best to help quit smoking. As many of you know I just quit opiods and now I am looking to quit smoking. Well at least in the next 6 months I plan on starting. I am looking for a plan of action here. Should I take
a. Nicotine gum
b. Nicotine Lorenza tablets or whatever there called
c. Just try and quit without any help

Any and all information you could provide would be helpful. Experiences of what have worked for you in the past would be very helpful. I quit opiods by just stop taking them so I figure thats the way I will quit smoking but if its easier to use the gum or the tablets then I will do that.

I have done some research on the subject but I dont trust what Ive read 100 percent. I trust more what you guys have to say then anything. Since the bulk of responders have gone through this and would know best what my next step should be.

I am currently using a E-Cig that has very low nicotine. After a month or so I feel quite a bit better and can breathe much easier.

Ive never heard of that. I will look it up online. Thanks for the info. Im glad your having good success

Edit: Ok how does the ecig work anyways. I looked it up and it seemed kind of confusing. If your having good success with it Im def interested. I found this sight http://www.buyecig.net/Buy_Your_ECig_Here.html but it doesnt give much info on how it works. I prefer first hand experince anyways to someone telling me how it works on a sight trying to sell me something

There is a battery that you recharge and a cartridge that you screw into it that holds the nicotine and vapor stuff. You can get them with various nicotine levels or even no nicotine at all. They also have many different flavors available. I picked mine up from a local mall. It cost me $50 for 2 batteries and a charger. and a pack of cartridges cost about $45, each cartridge is equal to 1 pack of cigs.

Chantex worked wonders for me, I only had to take it for a week and never looked back. I'm not sure it would be advised with your other meds. Maybe talk to your doc about it?

I started at 18, and tried to quit a number of times using a variety of methods, including Nicorette, Zyban, and cold turkey. I tried Chantix in late 2008. I smoked my last cigarette on December 23rd, 2008.

I suppose Chantix works well, after all it is hard to keep smoking when you have heart trouble and seizures as side effects.

I don't recommend my method to anyone. Got sick as hell (upper respiratory infection), and could NOT inhale smoke. Just wouldn't go past my throat. Went to doctor, got antibiotics, after 5 days I started feeling good again (recovering), and had the itch for a smoke.

Only smoke I had in the house, though, was a half-smoked butt in the ashtray. Lit that up, to see if I could even get the smoke down my throat. Took 2 puffs, which tasted HORRIBLE (big surprise).

Thought to myself, "I've been doing this to myself for almost 2 dozen years?? WTF???", and stubbed it out. Haven't touched tobacco since then. This Thanksgiving will mark 7 years of freedom!

It's called having the willpower to do so. I quit smoking simply telling myself,

"Self, after this pack of cigs is done, I'm through smoking".

That was about 9 years ago and I haven't looked back. It's the same with any sort of addiction, it's up to you and you only to stop. No 'miracle' drug, or gum, or fake cig will ever 'make' you stop. You have to do it for yourself.

Good luck!

Im a pack a day smoker right now. Over the last 2-3 years. Chantrix sounds like the way to go as long as you can get around the side effects. As for my friends the bulk of them do smoke.

The funny thing is, alan, that after about a couple weeks to a month after you quit, you'll smell your friends after they smoke, and think, "That really STINKS!!"

A friend/co-worker of mine, a few years back, was a smoker and also someone who didn't much "get" the whole personal space idea. We were working on a repairing a pump, he stepped outside for a smoke, and when he came back in, got a little bit too close.....and I was treated to his "cig breath". I calmly pushed him away, to arm's length, and told him to approach no closer. He got a little bit defensive, until I explained to him that (a) his breath, after smoking, was offensive, and (b) he was inside my "i love you bubble". :sneaky:

Just stop smoking. If you're a weak minded fool it doesn't matter what you try you'll do it again. My dad is currently in the beginning stages of emphysema. Just sitting around the table it sounds like he just ran a marathon and his brother can't walk to the mailbox from his front door. His brother also carries an oxygen bottle with him everywhere he goes. I went to his house and had the displeasure of watching him alternate between an oxygen bottle then a cigarette. Dumbest f@cking thing I've ever seen in my life. Also half of my dads heart is dead and he's currently fully disabled which means he survives on the piddly little checks the govt gives him. Sound like a promising future cause that's where you're heading. Also don't give me the "my grandpa smoked till he was 90" BS cause I'll give you the millions that died just like my father and uncle will and I guarantee your grandpa is outnumbered 10000 to 1.

i put my cigarette down when i saw my 8 month old daughter cough while i was enjoying my cigarette standing next to her. I never touched it after that. i went from 1 pack a day smoker to none.

I have tried quitting before that incident using patches, gum etc... nothing worked for me. Cold turkey is the best. you need will power and motivation.

I have the will power. I wanna quit now but know I cant do to quiting opiods. Its tough going through that right now I dont think I could handle quiting smoking. Thats why I said starting in 6 months.

Yeah...it's the same for pretty much any addiction. You gotta want to stop more than you want to keep doing it, then tell yourself "no" if you get the itch (and maybe remind yourself why). Eventually everyone's got to go cold turkey to get rid of it, though cutting back at first is a start, and might make it easier depending on the person.

i started after a deep depression... best way for me to quit was forcing myself to chain smoke a pack until i felt sick and my tonsils got swollen. but, then again, i wasn't really addicted... i only did it because it was something to do and was relaxing. there's something very seductive about the smoke coming off the end of a cigarette, how it dances...

it also helps if you have a reason not to, like a girl you really like who doesn't like smokers.

Cold turkey worked for me. I quit 6 years ago, mainly for financial reasons. Cigarettes are very expensive here in the UK. I kept a spreadsheet to track how much money I was saving by not smoking which helped with motivation.
