Good point smitbret, that is why I always say Unraid is the best media server OS because of ease of use and flexibility.

And the parity drive to prevent against single drive failure.

I really need to make my NAS instead of purchasing more and more HDDs. Only 1 more HDD until I have 0 space left and have to purchase a Norco 4224 to start my UNRAID server.

I'm pretty sure that 4224 costs more than my entire unRAID server!

It's confusing because if he buys a new nas, he has to navigate that NAS's OS anyway.
No matter WHAT NAS he purchases, he has to "learn" (setup? I mean what else do you do in your NAS OS? Do you go into every day?) to set it up.

It's an odd reasoning because it's something that has to be done no matter what purchase he makes.

Before I got used to freenas I felt exactly the same.
Its actually a lot easier than the windows home server I had before. The main lesson I had was to not dick around with it too much, just set up the storage and what ever addons you want and let it get on with it. The windows server used to nag me into logging in to it to address stuff all the time and it took me a little while to break that habit (and that habit broke my plex a few times, luckily that doesn't damage any storage. Hell I broke the OS once, that was actually a good learning experience as you can just pull the USB stick with the OS on it and stick a new one in and carry on with nothing lost).

Hooked up the Xbox One yesterday. You route your cable box (AT&T Uverse for me) through the Xbox. With the Kinect it's pretty sweet. You just say "Xbox On," and it turns on my Samsung TV & Yamaha Receiver with the xbox. You can just say "Xbox watch TV" and it pops open the TV app. "Watch Comedy central" and it changes channels.

It doesn't appear that xbox is capable of passing an unaltered bitstream. I could choose from "uncompressed 5.1" or "Bitstream" with a choice of DD or DTS. Either way the Xbox is decoding the sound and reencoding it to send it out. I don't think this really matters for me.

I haven't set up Plex on it yet, but I've been impressed with Pandora & Xbox Music. I purchased Forza Horizons 2 and was thoroughly unimpressed with the download\install time. It was a 37GB download and from start to being able to play took about 5 hours. A Steam game of the same size takes considerably less time.

Got a Plex Pass and set it up on the Xbox. Setup was effortless. And it plays DTS without issue. Seems like a perfect solution. I can even voice navigate to the movie I want. Anyone have any questions?
