Best wayt to invest $20K+?

So I am 25 and have a really good job at the moment where I am making approx $100K this year with it increasing steadily each year.

Right now I have about $20K in cash sitting in my bank account and wanted to do somethign with it.

I have 0 debt and my cost of living can easily be covered by my monthly paycheck with a lot left over.

I am owed about another 17K from my job in back commision which again will just keep increasing each month.

Can you guys recommend some options?

Set up a MMF and ensure you have 6-months of living expenses on hand in case you lose your job.

go check out your options at Vanguard, invest in a nice, diversified index fund, sit back, and watch the money roll in The cool think i've discovered about Vanguard is that there is an automatic import option into TurboTax, which makes handling interest-based taxes that much easier. Oh yeah, and they waive the broker fees if you invest over 3k. I highly recommend them if you are too lazy to pick your own stocks but still want to make some money on the side. They have nice categories (low, med, high risk) options, so if you spread out your money, you should safely get around 10% each year.

Although may I suggest you diversify that portfolio with a mixture of both Fannie and Freddie, with a side dish of Lehman.

If you are looking long term - i.e. greater than a year or two years, this is probably the best time to get into some of the equity indices, both US and international ETFs.

Diversify. Don't dump it into just one thing. If you want to play it safe there are always bonds and CDs.

With government running both - it's a risky move. For several reasons:

1) Government's priority will not be on increasing revenue, so both stocks may be flat for quite some time
2) Neither company may ever pay dividents again
3) There's no indication that either company will move into private hands again

rothira, double check that your agi is below the right limits.
open both roth and taxable investment account at vanguard. buy total stock market index or ftse all world(taxable)/international index (roth)

if you gonna go lump purchase, buy the etfs. cheaper expense ratio.

keep in mind, 100% equities can result in fast losses as well. worst instance was a loss of over 50% of value in one year. but in general over the long term will perform the best.
