Best Wireless ISP?

hey guys,
just wondering if any of you have had experience with wireless internet access. i am in the los angeles area and i probably need access in the bay area also. are there any good wireless internet services i can subscribe to? and how much per month does it usually run for? thanx a lot!

Im on the East Coast, but I would avoid a wireless ISP like the plague right now.
Wireless is nice, but it isnt secure as it can be.
Most people setup a wireless LAN.WAN and dont consider anything more secure like adding VPN to the mix..plus I imagine it is hella expensive and the range woud suck.

yeah...thats true, but i still was wondering if anyone had more information on it. especially like how much it costs and what companies are good...

What kind of wireless service are you looking for? Haul-my-PC-around-the-city wireless, or someone beaming the Internet to your home/office? The latter might be problematic, especially in two cities, but you might be able to get some kind of 2.5G/3G data service from a cell phone provider. Expensive, but fast - I forget the specs, but I think 3G is somewhere around 384Kb/s.

i was thinking more along the lines of getting internet on my laptop anywhere i go. on the car, at work, at home, in the city, etc.
as for the 2 city thing, actually, i realize now that you can only get it for like 1 city. unless is there any big time isp provider?
also, how secure is wireless internet? does it get a lotta hackers?

Portable wireless is pretty expensive.. You might check out Sprint PCS - They are doing the full-on 3G, and I *think* they are starting in the bay area. They plan on having full 3G by the end of 2002, so you might check into their pricing and availability. Easiest to call 'em up and ask what they have to offer. AT&T Wireless is also coming on strong with their 3G network and will probably have it deployed in the next year or so - Worth checking out, as well.
