Why boots? I've worked in a machine shop for over 25 years, and 90% of the employees wear oxfords. Best bang for the buck is Sears "Diehard" oxfords, which go on sale a few times per year for about $40.00. Otherwise, they're close to $70.00, as are any other quality work shoe. The thing that makes them last is the neoprene skin under the crepe sole. It's the same principle as carpet padding. The sole lasts forever, and is slip resistant because it's neoprene, but is VERY comfortable because it has the thick crepe layer.
Edit: Here is the equivilent
Red Wing oxford. They now call their sole "Odyssey SuperSole", but I think they used to call it "Two Shot", which referred to the two materials in it. I'd still prefer to buy from Sears, since it's MUCH easier to buy and return them, or handle warranty problems.
