Don't know if this is Regional or not, but I once found a $5 bill in the street, B&M. I wanted the entire list to know of my success and good fortune in finding this hot deal.

This was a slightly tattered $5 bill, but it was legal tender so I didn't care. This was so hot that I felt I had to alert the rest of you so you could go out and, you know, scour your streets in the hopes of finding $5 bills yourselves - or maybe larger denominations!!!

BTW, where I found it, it was in the gutter and there was a blue car parked near by.

BB sux.... I was there today, and they had a Rockford Fosgate 500.2 AMP OPEN with no box just shrink wrapped, marked at 359$.. I thought that didnt seem like much of a discount, so I walked over to check out the price for a new one... gues what it was

349.00 10$ LESS THAN THE OPEN BOX

I've actually seen open box deals at BB be MORE expensive than the unopened box Usually happens after a price reduction. I saw a digital camera for $488, and it was selling for $399 new. They offered to sell it for $389. Yep....they offered

I'm not sure how they determine prices for open box items at the BBs near me. I've seen some items with a great discount ($300 receiver for $200) and SmartMedia at 25-30% off and then there's other items that look like the were dropkicked and then returned that are discounted a whopping 5-10%. It seems to be random. Is there a dartboard with random %s in the managers' office?

Don't flame me for this, but if you want open box or refurb, you can get some great deals at Ubid. I haven't tried yet, but one of my friends scored big on a Harman Kardon receiver and some mid-high end speakers.

Mailnride: Your post is killing me. That was funnier than hell, man.

Agreed.... BB pricing policies for open box are usually quite stupid. Ohh.. maybe I can save a WHOLE NICKEL by buying this open box 61" big screen TV that even though looks like it's been through WWII, must work because some BB drone says it does! hehe.. Not crapping.. it's just so random what's there and what the prices are...

And mailnride, could you post a scan of that $5 bill... I want to see if I can go over to the RED car by the dumpster and see if they'll PM it.

I was fortunate today at BB. Found a Plextor 24/10/40A for $119.60, regular price $159.99. Box was heavily damaged and it was hidden behind another unit on the shelf. Box had never been opened! Drive is installed and works like new, which it is...

Went into best buy (Gainesville, FL) store again this afternoon to return a broken cdrw and saw a second smartmedia card (open box buy) for $14.60 (50% off).... There was definately nothing missing from the package. Im guessing that maybe all this smartmedia stuff are some of those "get the hell off the shelf ones".

Glad some of you thought that post funny.

I fail to understand who it serves to post a one-of-a-kind, BM/open box special deal.

If it's not repeatable or widely offered, you're just taking up bandwidth.

Be happy with your purchase, post it in the BRAG and MOAN thread, but I'm sick of clicking on these deal threads and find it was for something that 99.999% of people won't get in on.

mailnride: why dont you keep your thread crapping to yourself and troll elsewhere. From what it looks like some other people got great deals as well.

My apologies to you for wasting your bandwith potential by trying to help others

Thanks for the heads-up, aphex, I'll have to take a look when I exchange my new, scratched to hell before I opened the box, Blood Wake copy for another one. There was a wireless lan usb adapter on open box there that I was hoping would go down further.

It's a hot deal if at least one other person can use it, right? Well, I'm local to this store, so I can use it, so it's a hot deal. Enough crapping. Oh, and Go Gators!

I remember losing $5 in the gutter by the blue car. If it has a picture of Abraham Lincoln in the front then it is definitely mine! Please return my property and you will receive a 15% off coupon good for 2 weeks on any dell branded peripheral.

I got 4 digital camcorders at BB for $500 and then got $150 in mail in rebates. They were all marked between 100-200, but since I bought 4 they gave me a break. Now I have been to the same store 50 other times and never seen a deal worth mentioning. Most of the time their open box stuff is something like 10% below retail. So is it worth making a trip to look for open box buys ? No. Is it worth crusing the store as long as you are there ? Maybe.

Its tru Bargaining is a great way to get a good Deal at Best Buy. just last week, I bought a Toshiba 55 inch HD TV. Which sold for $2500, then was on clearance for $2200, then open box(last one) for $1900. The Speaker grill was scuffed up, so I asked if they would replace it(knowing they wouldn't)

Then I complained about it.... total Cost for the 55inch HDTV $1364. Plus $35 for delivery, and $300 for the 4 year warranty. The deal was I had to buy the Warranty though.

So the total was $1700. But I always buy the warranty on big ticket open box items... so it was no biggie

Just a quick FYI, I know this is true for circuit city (I worked there for 3 years). All open box items are negotioble. EVERYTHING. What happens is, when a product is returned, and is moved open box, it is automatically priced by the computer at a status of "1". "2", or "3". 1 being is new condition, 3 being in used condition (scratches, missing items, instructions etc). Now, the catch is, 95% of the time, if you ask for a better price on open box items than what is listed, you WILL get it. Espically if you purchase a extended warranty (which you can return the next day). I've seen hundreds of customers that had items marked at 10% off, walk out with 40-50% off, just because they asked. Give it a shot, the worst they can do is say no.

Good luck

The best buy out by me was even funnier. The AIW Radeon Retail (sealed box) was at $159.99. The open-box AIW Radeon was at $209.99.

I walked up by the cashier with it, she scanned it, rang up as $159.99. Next, she realized it was open-box so she changed the price to $209.99. I questioned her about the difference (I wasn't going to buy it anyways) and she said that there must be a pricing mistake, so I demanded to see a manager who I haggled for a few. He agreed that $110 would be a fantastic price for it (subtracting the difference between the two prices * 2). Then I was kinda interested, so I opened it up for a looksie. What did I find?

A card.

No cables, no CDs, just the card. I kindly explained that I owned this card and that there should at least be an adapter to use it with a monitor. The guy was completely shocked and apologized for my inconvenience and gave me a $10 GC for my next time there. Needless to say, I haven't been to a Best Buy since.

I'm not sure if thats true. I used to shop at the Circuit City down the street from their World Headquarters offices, and they would
not negotiate on a DVD player I wanted (open box)...even when I told them Costco had it cheaper (and they're supposed to pricematch Costco)!

Hmmm, clicked buttons too fast and posted without a message...

I think this is luck of the draw too. I know a guy who got an open box Magnavox TV. He called Magnavox and told them he just bought the TV and it didn't have a remote, so they sent him a new one. Good as new...
