I ran a search for "Dvd", and "Bestbuy", and didn't find another thread on this, so I figured as I consider it a good deal here it is
The made in Japan Cakebox of 50 I just bought, are Taiyo Yuden's, capable of 12x according to Plextools and as to the Plex 712. I picked mine up at the C'ville,( west dundee) store in Illinois.
IMHO these are the Best Discs made.
As a side note, of the 5 or 6 I checked, all were the Made in Japan version, as it is my understanding, that the Made in China discs are not TY.

I see the deal for the 2.4X Fuji discs. I could not find any 8X Fuji DVD+R on the Bestbuy web-site and none of the 3 local Bestbuys that I called have any 8X Fuji DVD+Rs.

Update: I just picked up two of these 8X Fuji +R 50 packs at $29.99 each at the MN Roseville Bestbuy. When I had called earlier the guy said that they didn't have any. I called back in the evening and this time this guy says that they are there & confirmed that they say "Made in Japan." Either they got some new stock, or this guy bothered to look better. However, even after I show up at the store, it takes me a bit to find them.

Sure enough, they are the ones with the plastic on the outside of the blue label, and made in Japan. Can't wait to try them on my new Plextor 712A that I got for $41 AR from Dell to see if I can get 12X.

Last time I looked, the rebate was for the -R discs.

Please confirm that you are sure that you're talking about a NEW and SEPARATE +R (not -R) rebate deal...

Yup Thats the correct discs and rebate. As to whether or not they will run at 12x on the Plex, I have burned 5 Dvd's since I got mine, and all burn nicely at 12x, with a low "PI". I sampled 3 from 1 cakebox and 2 from the other.

I went and bought me a spindle today too. 50 Pack of Fuji +R's "Made in Japan". At the Best Buy by my house, all the Fuji's except the 50 packs were Made in Taiwan, however the -R's were also Made in Japan. Have fun!

I was just observing the recordable side of my dvd+rs and I noticed that the first top 3 DVDs in the stack have impurities near the edge of the disc. I check my other 50 pk and I noticed the same thing. The same problem with my 50pk DVD-R.

Is everyone seeing the same problem with the top 3-5 DVDs in the stack? I havent tried burning them in yet. Is TY loosing quality?

My +R 8X discs look just fine and work great. Low PI/PO errors at 12X speed burn.

Is the $29.95 price before, or after, the $5 rebate? Usually you put "AR" in the title if the price shown is after rebate, so I'm guessing that these are ~$35 OTD then? I'm only interested in the OTD price on these.

Neither - the deal is dead. It used to be $29.95 OTD & $24.95AR but now it is $44.95OTD & $39.95AR.
