My BB had a sign posted that a lot of the ones sent for the sale were promos and 'not for resale'. So they issued rain-checks until they reached the minimum advertised stock. They did not offer the Ultimate edition. Seems it may be up to the local managers.

This *definitely* varies from store to store. The manager at my Best Buy let a couple of people pick up the $19.99 Ultimate Edition for $4.99 but within minutes she suspended that policy and went to issuing rainchecks. So it's worth a shot to ask but don't be surprised if they don't do it.

And you may not even be able to get a rain check since my local BB would only issue 100 of these to meet the "minimum number of copies" per store requirement.

i dont get how people are pulling this off? the ads here in socal had a disclaimer saying that this $4.99 price was NOT for the UE, and that no rainchecks would be issued. Does this have something to do with not getting in their minimum promised 100? I know my best buy in fullerton didnt have a T2 to be seen either version, at 11am sunday.

Yes, the only reason that they offered rainchecks to the first 100 was that the copies that they did get were incorrectly labeled as promotional copies. My best Buy also had some "basic" T2 DVDs (not the UE) that were *not* on sale. There's a particular SKU number for the sale copies. (I know this because I tried to buy one and ended up with a raincheck for the version that was on sale.)

It doesn't make sense, but managers often don't want to alienate future/return customers.

Considering the volume of business Best Buy does, selling UE at a loss won't even show up on the radar of the profit/loss statement.

The only thing I ever get from Best Buy is the stuff that is on sale, OR REALLY Cheap.
