BestBuy isn't that bad after all. At least not to me.

Last week, I went to BB to buy a pair of Logitech z640s, when I found them, I noticed they had a sticker on them that said $20 rebate". They were on the same endcap as a pair of logitech speakers that happened to be on sale with a $20 rebate also. Come to find out when I got home that the speakers rebate was expired by a few days.

I emailed BB customer service/complaints, and surprisingly I received a reply back within a few hours. The BB CSR appologised and asked me to fax him a copy of my receipt, and also my mailing address. He was offering to give me a $25 giftcard. Hey, that's fine by me, since it's five bucks more than the original rebate, and I can use the giftcard towards something else, since I am constantly buying something for my rig.

I just thought I would post something good about BB, since I see many problem stories with CompUSA, BestBuy etc. Usually, if you use a little less anger in your emails/phone calls/letters/in person rants, you get what you want and sometimes you get more. Just a thought. When I have an issue, I almost always get it resolved, and as I said, usually I end up coming out quite well in the end.

I used "less anger" every time... I know because I work retail that anger doesn't help... what do I get from CC & BB & CrapUSSR? NOTHING

I never ever get angry when I call a CSR. The reason that I don't like Best Buy is because their new website sucks, their employees put a lot of pressure on me when I'm just browsing, and I know people who work there that tell me the sales tactics are horrible.

Honestly I've never had a single problem with BB and none of the people I know around here have either. Maybe we have a good best buy? I've actually had a manager give me a sales price the day after it ended. I've also never had problems with returning stuff before.

I think a lot of people jump on the Hate BB Bandwaggon the same as they jump on Microsoft or any other huge company. It's just something for them to do to make them feel cool.

sounds better than most of the BB stories around here I never have much of a problem there myself, mostly because I try not to deal with the employees unless absolutely necesary. I'll look for something myself for quite a while before I ask; it's usually faster.

That said, I did have a problem with them last week. Of all things, they refused to price match their own website. I was there to pick up a cable modem for my girlfriend, and the tag on the shelf said the modem I wanted was $20 more than what I'd seen on the website, so I asked about it. The guy went and checked, saw the price, then told me flat out that he would not match it. Instead, he handed me another modem and said "take this one, it's the same price". That's nice, but it's not the point. The one I had him check on is the one I wanted. Anyway, I didn't really feel like picking a fight, so I took the other modem, paid, and left. It worked just as well, but it still irked me that the store would refuse to match it's own price.

Ah well. All the same, it's good to hear a nice story rather than a horror story once in a while.

My 2 local Best Buy's are pretty good, I've never had any issues with them. I actually prefer my local Circuit City, since I've had success pricematching against after rebate prices of other stores. The worst is CompUSA, I refuse to shop there after I had some rebate issues with them. I'd rather pay more money elsewhere than shop there.

My only problem with BB is the new suckiness of the website and the incompetence of their retail employees

my only gripe is them pushing the service plans. i bought a cell phone from there awhiiiiiiiiiiiiiiile back, and they just pushed and pushed. i didnt budge, and just recently i mailed that phone into verizon for $100 when i bought a new phone. and it was in perfect, working condition, 3 years later. i still go in there to buy dvd's, or if i plan to buy a camcorder or tv, ill look at them and then order elsewhere. oh yeah, and the crap they feed consumers sometimes, i just overhear it and chuckle.

I'm with you on the service plans. This is (generally) a great way for BB to make easy money.

I do agree that they should follow the customers around asking them if they can help them a little less often, maybe ask if you look lost or like you need help. If you look like you've got things covered they don't need to be harrasing you like they do. Another thing i've noticed, and not only about bestbuy, but all the retail computer chains I frequent, is that even though I spend a ton of money at these places, they follow me around, and I believe it's because they think I must be stealing stuff since I am in there so often and sometimes just to compare prices. That angers me to no end. I could see if I didn't spend any money there but.............I think I should be able to price certain things without being treated like a criminal, but I digress.

the one in Chapel Hill, NC is the suck-ass of Beast Buys.

that being said, the one in Greensboro is exemplary in service and salespeople

Ive never really had a prob with BB but I can vouch for the fact that their online customer service is really good. I had a case where my digital coupons wouldnt work, and they promptly apologized and made some new coupon codes for my account so I can use them.

heh when the P2 came out i was looking at buying one for my father. I wondered off to look at cd players and came back to find a guy telling my dad a bunch of BS. So started asking a bunch of BS questions. stuff like i read on the internet that the P2 has a quad turbo pipline that enhances the data burst rate of the v-card and if it was true. the guy said yes it does. thats when i turned to my father and said the guy dont know what he is talking about and is not telling the truth and he shouldnt buy from them. my dad said ok and we walked out.

the poor kid looked like he was going to have a stroke. he had my dad all set to buy a expensive system and then he lost it! heh

them pushing hte PSP is a pain. I can understand maybe getting on eon a expensive TV or such but they ask about cheap crap like Phones or such. why would i want a $15 PSP on a $25 item? not to mention they lie about it. bah

I've never had any problems at my BB. Given the employees are pretty much idiots but that's alright.

I worked at bb for the last two months (recently quit), and the psp's got on my nerves big time. i'm not the kind of guy that is going to pressure someone, i'll mention it and let them decide. i used to be told repeatedly that i had to get them to buy a psp. however, as far as the sales people, they may not be extremely knowledgeable, but for the most part they do know a lot more than your average consumer. take me for example. i cant hang with most people on this message board for computer knowledge, but i know way more than an average customer. bb was my second job, so staying super up to date on everything wasnt my top priority. i think that the people on these forums need to give the retail salespeople a break. on the other hand, if i didnt know something, i freely admitted it. if a salesperson lies, thats a whole different ballgame. just my rambling $.02!

by the way, my first post!

i worked the best buy comp floor... i had co-workers that gave so much bs sometimes, i just got fed up with it. that and the "psp training" we'd have to do because we were lacking in sales there.... blah, i despised those things and never tried to force it on anyone (the only thing i really find it useful for is the more expensive epson/canon... just to take care of clogged print heads. but even getting that thru the service department can be a pain).

As long as you don't buy floor items you're safe. Every single horror story from BB has been the result of buying floor items or open box items. Best Buy DOES have good deals once in a while. But I prefer CC. And if they ask you if you want their $40 "plan" tell them to shove it up their a$$.

I worked at Best Buy for 2.5 years. Yeah, those PSPs were annoying as hell. I hate them and dont buy them. When I sold them I tried to look at it as "this is my job so I am going to do it as i am told." Basically, it paid well and I had to have a job or my parents would take away my car...so I delt with it. I worked in computers for 2 of the 2.5 years I spent there and the knowledge of people varied. I mean, I am pretty well versed in computers and a decent number of the people i worked with were too. But there were a few guys who were complete idiots...and the managers were pretty dumb too.

Yeah, I did the Best Buy thing for about 2 years. I worked all over the floor, but when I had the option to work in the back I jumped on it. The reality, not to say anything against people on this board, but we had to deal with just as many bad customers as you guys have seen bad employees. Its amazing that some people just walk into the store pissed off. Not that I'm vindicating Best Buy or anything, they do have a really poor training program as well as the employees do not work on commission so there is no reason to really try (at least in my opinion), but then again, perhaps I didnt have that "team" mentality that best buy wanted. Anyways, if your an employee you get some great deals....
